Muzzle brake?
Pussy.
More interested in better shooting. Recoil mitigation, as I see it,is a part of that. Mirage reduction as well. Less fatigue allows for more trigger time, more trigger time makes me a better shot. Can't really fault that logic, can you, stuckie?
Afaik, you were quite the shitty shot, which made you sell your rifles and complain about it here.
In my case, I've only shot a total of 100 .308s, 20 6.5s, 1000 22LR rounds, and starting to figure out what I like. Less recoil allows me to shoot better. That's that.
It's a small round and with a bolt action, you have to reposition slightly every time you feed a new round in. The barrel will heat up too much to be very accurate at long range before your shoulder gets tired.
I'm a pretty good shot. I shot 1 30-06 and hit the bullseye. I shot one widening group with my 270 and never brought it in again with different scope rings and then new glass. I don't have much instruction, but I have better then average vision. Sometimes it really is the arrow and not the Indian.
Recoil happens after you pull the trigger, so your shot should be the same with or without a brake.
Stop flinching.
I like to shoot lying prone. The rifle doesn't move much even between chambering rounds, and I'm happy about that. A muzzle brake is a more efficient device to allow me to keep a clear sight picture than a suppressor, therefore, I want one. Not saying the recoil of the 308 bothers me, but I like the 6,5 better. You can call it a pussy thing all you want, doesn't make you more of a man. Look at what PRS guys are shooting with. Either suppressors or brakes. Most of those guys shoot even more pussified cartridges than the x55, like the 6.5x47lap, 260rem, 6.5 creedmoor, and even 6mm rounds.
I'm not getting any formal training either, other than what my government requires of me to get my long gun permit, but I try to pick up every little quick pointer I get along the way.
Just because you've shot a 30-06 once (as I read it) and hit the bull's eye, and had a 270 win that shot like shit, does not make you an authority. Vision schmision. Anyone can get theirs corrected.
To summarize what made sense about your post, using quotation marks:
"It's a small round"
"Recoil happens after you pull the trigger"
...
The rest, not so much. Have a nice evening.
Stuckie, STFU. You have no idea what you are talking about. I shoot a 243 with a suppressor all the time and it rocks.
Suppressor is where it is at for rifles, all you have to do to mitigate the mirage is to get a suppressor cover and the mirage is gone. I would choose a suppressor over a brake any day, plus the guys shooting next to you will love you vice shooting with a brake.
The pacifists always lose, because the anti-pacifists kill them.
Anyone who uses a long-range rifle and gets paid to do it seems to have a brake and/or a suppressor... Why beat yourself up? It's like touring with Dukes and Alpine boots. We're in the 21st Century. Dynafits and Suppressors, not Dukes and Recoil.
(Plus running a brake and/or a can means you can handle the recoil of a heavier bullet, going faster...)
I'm still going with my long time theory that stuck is a moron. I have two Tikka T3s stainless lights. One in .243 stock and a 7 mag with a brake and thicker/softer butt pad. I think they are about even for recoil. By doing those two things to the 7 mag, I brought my groups in a lot...I mean a lot. Flinching sucks and I was doing it. Call me a pussy but a 7 mag in a really light rifle bucks. I'm secure with making changes and being a better shot.

It's their Boundary jacket and pants with their under layers-I think I had on their wool vest and Chama hoody (my favorite shirt I own). That was a nasty/awesome day weatherwise in CO. Got into high winds and had to sprint out of aspen groves about three miles from camp. Stopped counting falling trees around me at about 50. Then it dropped 25* down to about 20* or so and snowed 4". I holed up for a couple hours. Everyone else went in due to cold and I stayed out probably another 6 hours. The south facing stuff melted off fast and I hiked back to camp in the sun and 40* weather just before dusk. Saw more muleys than I cared to but all the elk timbered up in some really thick stuff. Super great day. That day was an ultimate testimonial to their gear. To be honest, I have some ties to the company so sure one could think I'm biased but it really is the best stuff I've ever worn to be away from shelter in any temp/weather.

I wonder how many of the 100+ firearms confiscated were legally purchased?

Maybe we should start posting pictures of twisted up car wrecks in car stoke threads too.
Not many I would bet. Stolen guns bought on the black market
are rampant in the MC's. A lot of those guys are convicted felons, and as such are not allowed to legally possess firearms. They must not have known that, otherwise I'm sure they would've stuck to just knives and bats.......

So it took a while as I had a bunch of other projects going on, but I'm finally done 'accurizing' and de-uglifying this 10/22.
The vast majority of upgrades were drop in parts. The only labor on my part besides basic assembly was spending 30 mins cleaning up the overspray inside of the receiver to smooth out the action. Amazing what a green scotch brite pad and clp can do to aluminum with a little elbow grease applied.
Added the following parts:
Hogue Overmold stock
Green Mountain 16.5 fluted bull barrel
Hornet Black Max OTTO 2.5# trigger group
Kidd 'scalloped' bolt
Kidd polished guide rod & extended charging handle
DNZ Game Reaper scope mount
CenterPoint 4-16 AO scope
It shoots pretty damn well. Here's 50rds of Federal target @ 50yds:
Overall, I really like it, but am probably going to put a different scope on it at some point. The Centepoint does a good job considering the price ($60) but it gets pretty blurry, although still quite usable, at any magnification higher than 12X. I have a VXII 3-9 rimfire on another gun that I seem to do well with, so that may be the ultimate answer, but do like the ability to crank it up to around 12x.
I've sent out the stock parts that I replaced with these upgrades to CPC http://www.ct-precision.com/ruger10-22.html to have bolt and trigger group worked on so I can swap them into my other relatively stock 10/22. Those parts should be back in the next few weeks, and I'm waiting for the Magpul X22 stock to be released this summer. Once that comes out I'll grab a nice barrel and have two nicely upgraded 10/22's.
All in, I don't think I spent much more than $700 - including the original cost of the rifle - putting together this very, very nice shooting 10/22.
Now the trick is finding food for it!
Looking for a new rifle, the requirements are:
-Stainless Barrel
-Synthetic stock, but something decent either with nice "checkering" or rubberized grips
-Capable of sub MOA groups out of the box or with minimal work
Currently shooting 30-06, but considering .308 as I have access to a lot of once fired brass. Typical hunting shots will be inside 50 yds, but also want to play at the range out to 200+.
Been eyeing the Weatherby Vanguard, but have only handled the non SST version and am not impressed by the stock. Shot a tikka T3 light last year and had good results, but again no blown away by the feel of the sock. Hunted in a lot of snow/rain last fall in some big terrain, so looking to lighten up and weatherproof for this coming season.
Any recommendations?

And take the muzzle brake off.
