Just picked up a bottle of Forged Oak, anyone tried this yet? I haven't been a fan of any of the Diageo OB releases I've tried, but the Mrs liked Barterhouse so thought I'd give this a shot.
We emptied our bottles of ER17 and EHTBP over the weekend so needed something to fill the gap.
Just got some Lost Prophet, nowhere near as good as EC 21
I found in Jackson.
Best in years is 4 Roses barrel select, $75 for bottle selected by owner of Haymarket in Louisville.
Also just found some Weller 12, not cracked yet but previous bottle overrated-not poor man Pappy.
Life of a repo man is always intense.
As of tonight I've confirmed that I am still not a fan of the "Orphan" Barrel releases.
Confirmed the new Woodford Rye is tasty. (Yeah, I know, not a bourbon. But pretty darn good for a bourbon producer)
I still call it The Jake.
Picked up a bottle (1.75L) of Weller Special Reserve Single Barrel. Couldn't pass at $30. Wasn't expecting much as I've had the regular special reserve before and thought it was a decent, uninteresting whiskey to pour on some ice and sip near a grill in the summer. This one blew me away. The nose and mouthfeel were incredible. Thick and warming with big hits of maple, cherry, and vanilla. Far better than what I remember of special reserve. Highly recommended if you are able to find a bottle.
Tried some Pappy Van Winkle 23 a few weeks ago, best Bourbon Ive ever had needless to say! not sure it is worth the price of entry though!
When seconds count...ski patrol, SAR or the cops are only minutes away...
If they call it Tourist Season, why cant we shoot them?
Evan Williams 1783. Damn good bourbon for $16!
Indeed!
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
The Henry McKenna was on sale at the Virginia ABC store, so I picked up a bottle with no idea what to expect. Really impressed (I think I paid about what you did, give or take $2). It's delicious and really well-rounded, especially for 100 proof. I don't know if the proof varies from barrel to barrel (or if they dilute to hit a target), but I think this will become a regular every-day-drinker sort of bourbon in my house.
Seriously, I don't think Henry Mckenna can be beat in the under $30. There are a couple of great posts on redwhiteandbourbon.com about the Four Roses Barrel Select system and where to find them in CO. Most recently I had some OBSO from BevMo in Orange County. That stuff is so amazing!
I had some Angel's Envy Rye finished in Rum Barrels over the Easter weekend and it was delicious.
Nah - they just like brown liquor, and I've helped kill many at their respective houses over the years. The rule is if you pop it and leave it on the table then it's fair game. "Special" bottles get poured and put away. Shit it was cheap anyway - like $35. Probably should buy another one but it takes up a lot of room in the cabinet with that weird base.
If we're talking rye, I really enjoyed a bottle of Lot No. 40 that I had recently. Rich and smooth:

I hear ya. Maybe I'm thinking of another Willett in the same goofy bottle. The one I had was around $60 I think.
Nice to hear they have a equally tasty lower price point bottle.
I still call it The Jake.
Nice write up on the conclusion and bust of the great Pappy Heist (and some AC Eagle Rare) of 2014.

THEY HAVE TO DESTROY THE EVIDENCE!?! What the fuck!?! Send it to me!!!

Been drinking a lot of bourbon lately......Weller special reserve, Basil Hayden's, Eagle Rare, Elijah 12, Buff Trace, Angel's Envy, and OGD100 of late.
Bought a bottle of EH Taylor small batch, and damn was it ever delicious. Do recommend. Butterscotch, everywhere.
Jefferson's Ocean not as a bottle purchase but a neat pour was delightful. Id be intrigued to sample again and might consider a bottle for special occasions...
Totally agree! I love the heavy rye back too. 100° 10yr single barrel for ~$25 athankya I'll take two.
Also really big fan of Evan SB again great value for that quality of bourbon. Really all the HH whiskies are a great value.
Recently tried Bookers, damn good. I really like the overproof non chill filtered stuff these days. Do bad beam sold out to the Japanese, I usually don't care too much about that kinda stuff but bourbon is American!!! Along the same lines Russell's reserve single barrel is phenomenal, 110° also non chill. But being a wild turkey product, campari (Italian) owned...

formerly an ambassador for a few others, but the ski industry is... interesting.
Fukt: a very small amount of snow.
I'm not sure which batch you tried but if you or anyone is looking for a fantastic, and really unique bottle try and find the 3rd release of Jefferson's Ocean. It's much less intense than the first two attempts and tastes like salted caramel.
At $60 a bottle I think you'd be hard pressed to find as good of a deal on some really tasty and unique bourbon these days.
Yeah, that's a sin. Fucking hacks.
