Kids still skiing...lots of lessons and dad yelling at Telluride to fun in the sun at Kirkwood. Finally got my son (6 years) on his 115cm Moments - he's tall for his age. They are probably a bit wider than most kids skis but he says he loves them...especially because 'he can go backwards.' My daughter (3.5 years) has been killing it...great speed control and can follow my turns extremely well. I bumped her up to 88cm skis from her 70cms...but then went back to the 70cm as she seems to have a ton more control on them.

Do you know how they thought your 3y.o.? My youngest just turned three and has been out 10 days this year. I can not get him to even try to make a snow plow on his own. He can stand and flow with changes in the fall line but not much else. My instruction(ex ski-instructor) is just ignored or I get a "I can't do it daddy!"

I don't know the methods but 6 visits to ski school thru his daycare made a world of difference. The first 2 visits were as if he was a never ever. He'd been out with his mom and I a ton of times but something they taught worked like a charm. Lil dude follows me all over the place now, unless he's the "line leader". It's more fun than a pow day to cruise around with him.

Don't teach your own kid. Even if you are an instructor. They'll always say they can't do it unless you hand them off to a pro.

Yea, my oldest has been in a ski school program the last three years and will go into a club next year if he desires. The hill we go to doesn't take kids until they are 4 so I am doing what I can so we can all be out there together this winter.

Gotcha. In that case just focus on fun, fun, fun. Hot chocolate breaks, candy, smiles, make him your ski buddy. Let him lead. Let the instructors be the bad guys next year. Wait until he's in ski school for them to 'teach'. Just enjoy whatever he wants to do on the hill until then. You'll be glad you did.

I think we've been through this topic.

FWIW, My kids learned to ski with me; they like steep stuff, but mostly just want to be with me including skiing Silverton.

But they're all different so your muleage may vary.

thanks! it goes so fast. I so vividly remember his first day on skis. Waterville Valley, the weekend that Bledsoe got hurt and Brady took over. He must have been 4 or so years old. Now, he's a foul mouthed high school senior, likely on his way to CU Boulder, but he can ski. That he can.

Wow! This thread has been blowing up lately. Good to see.

A couple of weeks back my little Iowa 4 year old grom invaded Montana.

Just my .02 as you know, and no dis' intended for those that do it the other way. Your kids are lucky to have you and L and your collective stoke and passion, as well as access to and enthusiasm for cool places. I just knew I was not cut out to teach my own sprouts. My suspicion is that most of us aren't, and for us in that category we and our kids are better skiers and people for letting someone else do the teaching, and us just having fun with them. YMMV indeed. It worked well for my crew and I'm pretty sure they'd ski with you at Silverton anytime!

Whether you teach them yourself or not, the times having fun in the show with them are priceless and something I'm so very grateful to have had, and continue having.

We've got to get him closer to the gates. He's not shinning those stubbies enough. Skiing too much of the course. He's got great form but could be a bit more aggressive and get faster.
