Who cares? If someone is bored on alpine and wants to learn tele, why not at the resort? I learned skiing at the resort... and snowboarding. (Although, I could argue I learned snowboarding in the back country riding on my snurfer.... so I guess I get a few gnar points for riding free on the aquaduct?!)

Who gives a shit as long as you're not dropping loads on the skin track or running people over at the resort. Fun is fun.
The man speaks wisdom people (comes with age) . To steal a recent quote from another unnamed elder around here, who may or may not live in the BB, SKIING (riding, tele, snurfing, blading or whatever else there is) IS FUN!!!

On that note, off to have some fun. Carry on!

Anyone else hear about this story?
Hiking the ridgeline in the conditions this weekend is pretty bold.

That's super sad. Bad judgement all around. I couldn't imagine dropping my wife off at the trailhead to hike alone in this weather. 32 years old. Way Too young. Bummer.

Just heard about this in the morning avy report. Vibes to her family and friends. I give tremendous credit to the SAR folks who attempted to rescue her. That call could not have been a fun one to respond to. I hope none of them were injured in their efforts.

Haven't posted much in here lately, but here are some photos from my few moments of not coaching at Magic. I've really been putting my WORTH MAGICS through the paces and they've been killing it in every way.

Never before skied line at Magic (First Descent thanks to DoWork):

And here's a part of the mountain I would've never thought was skiable before. Good things we have so much snow.

In the beginning I was pretty against the fat-bike thing, with Yeti here in town promoting them so much, i had visions of tools just shredding the XC trails on the mountain in freeze-thaw conditions. But, even though they have apparently sold over a hundred, i've only seen ONE up there, and it was such hardpack that day he wasn't even leaving a track. His bozo buddy on a cyclocross bike was, though.

I'm guessing it's mostly the rich yuppie types buying them and not really using them. fine with me. Yeti's ski shop is great when you need a spare part so +1 for them

I just use an old Norco MTB with studs to get around, it's pretty rad

Super sad to hear about the hiker. Can't imagine what it must have been like up there

great pics of Magic. need to get down there one day. Worths look great too

What a sad story. She must have been very experienced to even attempt something like that and attempting it solo and in all of that exposed terrain in record cold. Is there something in this story I'm missing. Vibes to her friends and family

Reminds me of reading 200 below zero or whatever that book was called about the first winter ascent of Denali. I hope I never experience -35 temps and 100mph winds.

I was up in Pinkham notch this past weekend, Sunday morning wasn't too too bad- still buttfuckingly cold and a stiff breeze, but around 2pm the temp just started to drop like a rock. And the wind had already been picking up.

No idea why she'd set out that morning on a decently long hike. NOAA and mt wash obs were all saying the wind was going to be triple digits and temps well below zero starting that afternoon.

Sunday night I looked outside and the thermometer was between -12 and -16 and the wind was fucking howling- and that was in the woods in Jackson.

Mt wash recorded 140+mph gusts with 100mph sustained and temps at -35 by Monday morning. The only place on earth with a recorded colder temp was the South Pole at -51 (summer there though)

Really nasty weather for AVS -
You're gonna stand there, owning a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistling bungholes, no spleen spliters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker donts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistling kitty chaser?

Today, I am at work, and not skiing. Thus, instead of stoke you get Today's Contribution to the Inane:

Those are some awesome shots. I wish I knew where that line was... but I won't ask. A secret stash is... a secret stash Glad somebody's hitting it.

I was up at Magic on Sunday. Only a few inches of new snow from that last storm, but some of the trees had powder halfway up my poles if you knew where to look. Gotta get some powder baskets...

Stupid question - did the mountain and/or volunteers clear out the woods skier's left on Sorcerer? It's much more open than I remember it being in previous years (Sunday was my first time up there this season).

Yes, you should be worrying. Correlation = causation, for sure.
