from the comment section of a recent newspaper (edit: cbc) article about bears ...

" Funny story- in 1998 we were camping in BC and right about supper hour we heard some god awful screaming coming from a couple of sites down. There had been Grizzlies spotted in the vicinity the day before and right away we took off down the road to see what was going on and to try to help. We got to the site and there were 3 little Asian kids rolling around on the ground screaming their heads off and tearing at their faces, the mom was yelling at the husband in Mandarin or something and he standing there with a look of bewilderment on his face. Long and short of it- this dolt thought Bear spray worked on the same principle as Bug spray and hosed his kids down. "

Those are some great summer gaper quotes.

Overheard from some bikers near the top of the gondola at Vail: "Just ride your brakes a bit, they'll warm up."

Bears like their gapers with a little hot pepper seasoning. Throw in some blue cheese dressing and you have a tasty meal!

Lady feeds the bears for years, gets bitten and clawed AND busted by Fish and Game. Poetic justice.

I have a kid who is a senior in high school. Today in class they were discussing suicide for terminal patients. One of the kids argued that it shouldn't be legal because the medication a physician would prescribe could be addicting. My kid said there was a moment of stunned silence then a simultaneous eruption of laughter. The kid was serious.

I've seen a number of movies where someone is going to give someone else a lethal injection, and they very carefully tap the air out of the syringe. (Injecting someone with air can kill them, but it would have to be a lot of air).
I was sitting around the ICU many moons ago when a nursing supervisor came by looking for an extension cord. Apparently they had overdosed a psych patient on barbiturates and put him in the padded room where his heart stopped. The defibrillator had no juice in the batteries and the nearest outlet was out in the hall. I asked why they hadn't just dragged him out in the hall rather than run around the hospital looking for an extension cord. "Because he's too dangerous." (If you want to know why I don't have a lot of faith in the ability of the medical establishment to handle Ebola, it's because of stories like this.)

Goat I was say something about the force of trained habit regarding the air tap but the 2nd part stunned me to silence. Sort of.

Anytime your in Teton Park for fun pull over and have everybody get out of the truck. Point anywhere away from the road and have everybody else point. Act interested. Point a camera in the same direction
Watch carloads of gapers stop , get out, and join you as you stare into oblivion
    Return to the truck
    Drive a few miles. Repeat

Only conversation I had all day.

    It was strange. WTF.

    Also quite applicable in Yellowstone.

No quotes today, but definitely gaper in jeans.

Best Gaper qoute of the weekend?

Fulfilling my part time duty of helping newbs rent skis. A Chinese guy from somewhere in the Bay Area asked if you had to use gloves with ski poles. Wx at 9k feet has snow and 30 degree temps tomorrow. Plus after trying to figure out what the hell he was complaining about in regards to his ski boots I find out that they are to stiff and he can't flex em. Needless to say he is in a women's Salomon quest 70 now. All 160 pounds of him.
