Played a round in VTF's back yard on Friday. Calling it a perfect day (so nice we played an extra 9) doesn't do it justice nor does this cell pic come close to capturing how amazing the colors were.

I didn't think it was too little singletrack more than the singletrack wasn't evenly dispersed throughout the entire course. Regardless, great time.

So how much should I downsize for EC skiing? Out west, I toured on 190 Wailer 112s (really skied this most of the time) and have 197 Lotus 120s for the deeper days. The 120s will stay out east, but was thinking the 190s would be fine for skiing here. Thoughts?

It's the east coast, not a different planet. No need to buy special skis, despite what rawj might tell you. ;-)

how tall are ya and how much you weigh? I'm 6' 165/170 and find 180-185 with 90-100mm waist is about perfect for resort and george. I'm on 181 k2 129-92-115 and haven't found a condition they don't like east or west deep or hockey rink. Metal laminate rocker tip flat tail. They just plain work great everywhere for everything.

Dps have no business out here unless all yer skiing is soft snow. They are chatter boxes and don't hold like a good damp metal laminate ski.

This is probably more of an issue.

Some storms coming thru will drop 18" of heavy dense snow where good float is great, but once chopped up a bit can be a handful on 110+mm waisted skis as they just deflect like a bastard off of all the deep piles everywhere. Was at mildcat last season on a day just like that. Was skiing with a group of very good skiers. They all had fat skis which they loved for the 1st run or two when conditions were smooth, but man were they getting thrown around once things got chunky. Some were bummed they didn't bring the skinny boards. My k2's were brilliant tools for that whole day. By 1:00 things were super bumped up in the trees and trails. No place for fat skis.

Either one will work as a pow day ski here. I usually ride L 138s on pow days, especially low tide pow days. Not sure what your skiing style is, but I'd recommend getting a pair of 90mm ish underfoot skis with metal. Those RP112s are not going to give you the edge hold youll want on firm days. I got a pair of Volkl Kendos last year and loved them, i come from a race background and ski aggresively with technical proficiency and am 200lbs. Some of my friends who ski fast but are lighter and prefer softer skis hated them. So YMMV.

IMO - To get the most enjoyment out of a season plan on having fun on firm days. Carving crazy G force turns on runs with double fall aways is fun, if you have sharp edges and dont look at it and go man its icy this sucks. Just think of it like putting the monster truck away and taking out the Porsche. Sure you cant crush anything you come across but you can arc on a dime and go fast with more control and precision.

Edit - you tele so you can probably ignore most of what i said.

After you pick your jaw up off the floor from being exposed so early on by superior EC surveillance…

I have the 190 DPS Pure 112RP and my opinion is defacto to brownie’s comment.
Deflection being the biggest issue; input won’t lead to equal output which leads to disappointment.
You will feel like a very fast bumper car pretty early on in the day.

You will find EC snow much richer in water content and it sets up really fast. Significantly higher humidity levels affect the snow. So the deep freeze around here does not bring the cold smoke you would expect unless the humidity is low, which means never. You may want to be ready to sample a new kind of cold though.

EC old snow in the temperate winter requires a ginsu knife type ski unless you plan on swishing your way around the snow instead of playing in it. Any good snow and I’m on 107/185/wood. Any questionable or old snow conditions and I’m on 93/184/metal. Refrozen anything and you should be somewhere in the 80’s (84/182/metal) and mildly detuned sharps (ginsu knife).

If your 3pinning, then a little more length won’t have as much impact.
If heel down interests you, I have an atomic system ski (ginsu knife) that will accommodate anything short of gargantuan bsl that you can play a day in.

If you’re a newschooler than disregard everything I just put out here.

I really like the length of your jacket fer sure
I am not in your hurry

The funny thing about that clownshoe kook is he is a Claybrook owner. See him on the webcam on the weekends loading for early ups on a regular basis.
