I'm proud of my wood shed as was fed up with tarps of all kinds. All it really cost me was the tin and $2/ft for the PT posts. All the beams and joists were off property. Now that 2nd bay fixed up for wood ( on right) can put 4 years supply if stacked to 9ft. Have 2015 and almost 2017 , another cord to go. Now just have to find 4.5-5 for 2016 to go in front of 2017 on right.

Just visited my parents for the first time in 3 years. Cut down a heavy leaning 20 inch dbh hardwood on their property. First tree that I've cut down a tree in several years. Perfect face cut. Didn't barber chair and kill me. Felt really good.

Cut down first trees (2) on my property today. They were small. Many more to go over the next few years. Fun times!

Spent quantity time with the splitter this weekend and laid in another cord so we're to 2+ cords of some mystery fragrant conifer.
That compliments the 1.5 cord of cruddy alder.
Casting around for a little more decent doug fir or maple to augment this, but I think we're set.

Got the tree guy coming to climb and drop a couple cedars tomorrow. I'm going to drop a big one on my back lot. Might get an Alaska mill and actually do something with it rather than just move it around and burn it.

How big? is it more than 4' in diameter ? We're looking for a good slab around 7'x4'x3" for a table.

Not that big. There are two small mills here locally that would probably have that though if you want me to look.

Cutting wood is a year round project around here. Whether it is marking trees, felling, bucking, splitting, stacking; it never ends. Last year we burned close to ten cords, almost 2 for heating and 7-8 for sugaring. This year I will probably have 12-15 put up by Jan 1. I just chip away at it and find it enjoyable...and good exercise.

what's sugaring?

in the local mill in the grass valley, ca area, spring is supposedly the time to order and get things like a 4'x7'x3" boards. apparently, they do most of their milling in the spring.

i'm just here to say that i dropped my first tree
it was a 3-trunked dogwood (24" base) growing into the power lines
the power company separated the branches from the lines
i managed to drop the rest without damage to the lines or myself

next learning experience: towing (to get a rental chipper/shredder)

Split somewhere between 5 and 6 cords of apple and cherry over the weekend, which has effectively taken over my driveway. But once it's stacked I'll be fully stocked for this winter and 15/16. I can definitely split lodgepole faster by hand than with a hydraulic splitter, but it was the only way to go for gnarly fruit wood. I'm sitting on around 13 or so cords total at the moment.
