They are like ninjas popping out of all sorts of crazy places.
People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

3.5-4' @ 14 sec with a sweet angle at york this am. Had the whole north corner to myself for 2 hours. Head high long walling left sets. Clean. Paddled south a bit to be social with a familiar face. Going back for high tide. I hope

    anyone else?

north corner on the cobbles is one of my favorite waves of new england. it is a rare score, but when it goes, it works like a dream. Funny you had to surf it alone. Yeah, if that is the case, really no point in driving.

exactly. a friend of mine (that girl) did the drive up to bath area (reids/pompom(sp?) and got totally skunked this am while i surfed perfect waist/chest with light offshores across from the general store at york. she said she got there and the wind was nuking onshore and she was surprised. i surfed from 530-645am as i knew the wind was gonna get testy early on. went back to walk the dog around 8 and watched the smooth get textured real quick. north corner was the last holdout and still looked sweet with like 1 or 2 guys on it. sunny perfect weather, perfect waves, and hardly anyone out. the one mile drive from the house is the sucky part, must get closer

right? ditched work early yesterday afternoon for high tide york. FIRING. head+ with ogt power in front of the restaurant. the lifeguards were whistling and whistling as we inched closer to the south end of the rest. thank god they didn't call popo. 150 bux and a trip to court. got one of the best rights ever at york. for me. i knew it was gonna be a good one when i started to paddle for it and i heard a few oooooh's from others around me. so solid. so easy. thick and autopilot mode right to knee deep water. so good. the lefts were flawless as well.

tired. 7 great sessions in 5 days this week. maybe longboard leftovers in the am to close out a VERY good august? monday looks promising....

Firing? I was lacking power in NH. You guys in ME must not know what 'firing' really means.

with the angle coming in the 120-140 range, the swell was hitting us much more square. Great for size and power, not so great for beachy closeouts. Some waves ran from a few hundred yards south of the rest to damn near the fucking bath house. NOWHERE to go on those. 2 pump chumps then off the back on those to keep from sitting too long waiting for the perfect corners, which there were many out front of the rocks. For york standards it was firing. You know when the young varsity squad shows up, york is prolly the place to be, especially after hearing how bizarro world that ogt was in the am.

It helps to live in Maine to lack perspective.

The way blu describes york I damn bet timber was the place to go. When the beaches get wonky like that, the stones are nice. Even JLand at drakes woul have even a good call. Ogt is still sand bottom, so I can imagine it weird to. There are also some islands off cape porpoise that come to mind. One has a light house and is sure pretty. Surfed it once about knee high on an otherwise small day. Fuck I miss Maine during a hurricane swell.

Ya good stuff. One thing i really appreciate about york during long period swells is the micro shifts in the tides and the outflow streams that empty into the lineup creating little underwater sand points every few hundred yards. You can sit in one spot where it stops working completely and in 10 minutes it's perfect. And like i said about there being closeouts yesterday, there were easily as many that were rip-able for long distances that wouldn't close. Growing up on the cape, there were whole seasons where everything and everywhere were like one big closeout. The wall nh can get like that.

Well, surfing down the cape was a bust, didn't even get out once. Just got in the truck and parked my lazy arse on Sandy Neck every day for two weeks. I move into school tomorrow, finally will have some reasonable proximity to the breaks!!

was teaching my girlfriend to surf at second beach yesterday in Newport and broke my stupid ankle hopping off the board into 2 foot water. I didn't even twist it or anything, just landed hard and was surprised by how shallow the water was. Went back out to surf one more tiny tiny wave and limped back to the car but today can't support my own weight. And I was really looking forward to hurricane season. Damn it.

heard the cape was only good for a coupla short windows during cristobol. Man i don't missing living there as a surfer one bit. It's good like 1/8th the time that it is in maine due to winds alone.

Lookin kinda tiny here for the next week or so. Cycling fitness is building in monstrous proportions as of late. Lets surf together when the ocean cooperates.

Ugh, sorry to hear. My uncle did the same exact thing a coupla years ago. That scenario has always freaked me out. I always jump into shallow water like a crouched ninja if i can.

rog told me that he misses therudeman. His number and residence are the same. Can you smell the epic coffee brewing?

walden pond here. Maybe a bump next wednesday. Maybe.

btw, stop driving volvo's. Honda. Honda's get a bit cranky every 100,000 miles or so, but you'd have to hit a tree head on to not get to where yer going.

Waves have been shit here for the last few days but Wednesday or Thursday might be decent. Just got a new board so im itching to get out. In other news. 60% chance of a new formation in the next 5 days. Could amount to nothing but one can only hope.
