in another of the endless lists that pop up these days, on the list of 19 essential things all men must own, cologne was on the list. You have to be kidding me. Maybe when you're 14 and going through your Axe phase, but have you ever shaken hands with someone that wears cologne? you can't shake the smell.

i do like a manicure though, but that can hardly be considered "male" vanity

Knock yourself out. I never wore mine because I have to scrub my hands and don gown and gloves several times a day and can't wear a ring. While working around the house and doing recreational stuff I don't like to have anything on my hands that could cause injury or get caught in something. I don't know how many times we've treated guys who've broken or de-gloved a finger because they were wearing a wring.

And really I don't like wearing a ring or jewelry, it feels and looks weird to me.

Men or women who wear cologne or perfume. If you want to smell good, take a shower.

a watch and a wedding ring. Is that vanity? I do have a pretty high opinion of myself for some reason.

A wedding band is one thing. And unless you're a scuba diver or an astronaut a watch that costs > $500 is pure vanity.

    Sure about that?

In other news: I wear a wedding band on the left, and a ring my wife gave me on the right. I know my place, and do as I'm told. My wife is more concerned with what might happen if some bim sees I'm not attached than what might happen if my finger is crushed. Priorities I guess.

Perhaps $500 is too low. How about watches that cost > $1000?

hey man it was a gift! I was never a watch guy, more of a cell phone guy. i do like this watch, and it's the only one I own (except for a few shitty $999.00 ones)

That's probably a heart rate monitor.

I guess wearing a heart rate monitor is pretty annoying. Unless you're pro or told to by your cardiologist.

People who use a sports watch, cycle computer or HRM because they're "training". Training for what? Bragging rights in cube world?

They have these crazy things called "competitions" which usually involve completing strenuous activities in a timed fashion.

    Also see "training for Alaska"

I understand that for the elite level, but for everyone else it's not going to do anything except waste their time by obsessing over the latest stats.

True confession: I had a speedometer on my sting-ray back around 1970. Have always had some kind of gizmo on my road bike to at least give me speed and mileage. I just think sports watches with HRM, GPS, Altimeter, Barometer, Compass, Slope Indicator, Distance, Speed, Max Speed, Course, Secret Decoder Cock-Ring, etc. are overkill, especially when they're all wrapped up in a tiny, unreadable display made even more unreadable by being strapped to your handlebar.

Also, my wife bought me a Garmin for my bike a couple of years ago for Christmas which is actually quite nice. Such a fine line between performance athlete, and hypocritical douchebag...

so to put it simply, it annoys you when someone has a nicer bike computer than you???
