When I do carry driver, one loose shot and it's back in the bag. If I mishit a 3-wood I move to 19 degree hybrid and so forth. I've played complete rounds hitting nothing but 5-iron because that's the club I could keep in play.

My younger brother, a former Marine, plays with a 4 iron off every tee. He hits it 250 every time, straight. If he has 180 in, he hits 4 iron, choked down. He made a hole in one, 1/4 swing 4 iron, 175 downhill.

Scoring is the hardest. Hitting the ball far, or straight will get easier. Scoring is all about being creative.....Not being right. 4Matic is retarded.

My day yesterday.....first 4 holes...keeping up with the mini-tour dude I was playing with....not in length ( dude hits it 345 every fucking time). next 12 holes shitty, like really shitty, but making putts to save par, last couple holes, lots of nice shots heard from the gallery. 7200+ yards, lots of water, lots of OB, lots of native grass......
So the former marine is retarded too? That's basically what you are saying.

    345 every time? Hyperbole much?

Dude, you are missing points left and right.

Miles P. hits it 345 every time....yes. Sea level is about 325 with the 330-335 bombs.

Well, Bubba Watson leads PGA tour with 313 average so like most things you prattle about it's not believable.

That is a fine control freak micromanaging strategy, but not much fun for most people. 16 year old kid learning the game, sure.

most normal people like the challenge of hitting shots, recovering, and moving on. Golf is serious business but not that serious.

i do. but i've been on a crash course of information uptake overload for the past 3 years. i'm just now starting to understand the way things actually work when i do them versus what how it sounds like it works on paper. it's just now starting to get easier, in large part because i have finally learned how to relax on the course, at least compared to when i start.

i take all my clubs. it doesn't way much more, and i like to have options.

I don't think it's such a big deal for a golfer who shoots around 100 to hit a driver. I have a few friends like this and really they get by okay off the tee and sometimes hit some great drives - their scoring suffers most from inside 125 yards. Besides, it's fun to hit driver.

As recently as the mid 90's they didn't even have hybrids and those of us who learned then (or earlier) somehow improved our games with just a traditional setup. I'm not sure I believe it, but you could argue that relying too much on those types of clubs can hold someone back from progressing.

That is an average of all tee shots that are not par 3s. Driver alone, he is way above 320 all the time, unless he is peeling shots.

With all your bravado I figured you would know how PGA DD is calculated:

"Drives are measured on two holes per round. Care is taken to select two holes which face in opposite directions to counteract the effect of wind. Drives are measured to the point at which they come to rest regardless of whether they are in the fairway or not."

Meh, same difference. On tight courses, wet conditions, wind, the yearly average is fucked. Here in Colorado, shit is perfect.....unless the wind blows.

This guy I am talking about sprays it sometimes.....he is not on the PGA tour. There are some long ballers out there......

    .
The problem is they hit driver on every hole and never consider another club. I play with mid handicappers all the time and the biggest problem I see is they can't hit shots. No idea how to hit knock down, low tee shot, judge the wind and adjust. That's what you learn by having limited options and fewer clubs.

this thread keeps getting funnier. I'd bet a sleeve of glow-in-the-dark balls that if we took Das, 4Matic, Spook and a 4th and put y'all on a golf course [with the required hot beverage cart girl] that you fuckers would have a blast and the TR would be hall-of-fame worthy....

Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there's a fit about to get thrown
And I never hear a single word you say when you tell me not to have my fun
It's the same old shit that I ain't gonna take off anyone.
and I never had a shortage of people tryin' to warn me about the dangers I pose to myself.

As long as they play fast I'm good. You can referee as 4th

There's some truth to that for sure. It's also good to learn on tree-lined courses for the same reason because it forces you to get creative compared to some wide open courses where all that matters is your lie.

I've played some rounds with only a 3, 5, 8, PW and putter and done surprisingly well... probably because I was always in the fairway and approached it with a survival attitude. Long par 4's are brutal, though.

Half the fun is being creative and trying different shots, even of you're a mid-capper.

reminds me of that classic Johnny Miller quote:

Q: What club do you hit 100 yards?

A: All of them. [always was known for his modesty]

Q: I don't think you understood my question.

A: I don't think you understood my answer.

Then he went from driver to putter, hitting each an even 100...

Watch every player on tour hit their driver and then hit their wedges. You think it's the same swing? There are shared fundamentals in those swings but I've never met a good golfer who disagrees with what I said.
Let me say this more succinctly. You know how I know you don't know what you're talking about? Not only do you think you need four different swings, not to mention chipping, putting etc... But you claim to consistently make four different swings. And you know what? If Nicklaus can't do it, neither can you. You can delude yourself about it though. Carry on.

    I preferred the unedited entry.

Driver shot and iron shots are different swings with different planes. If you don't realize that then I'd love to watch your drive.

Need a 4th? Thanks for the tell. A match would be fun. Never met a scratch golfer that talked trash on the course. That's for us 9+'s.

Wed - Mt Si Mens GC - Eagle to a 41 and win $50 split with my partner
Thurs - TinCup GC Mens Championship qualifier - One par in a row and vomit all over myself to a multi double bogie 43. I'm out. My wife won last years Women's 9 Holers Championship with a 63 net 43 and has her name on a plaque in the shop and never lets me forget.
Fri - A sore back this morning from the bad swing day yesterday - OTS Couples League - Sweet swing, good bounces and back to back birdies to a 36 net 29

    That's Golf

Edit to say I just reviewed the card. Got that 36 with 2 GIR and 12 putts. Better stats than a pro? 4matic will let me know.
