Looks like CDOT is adding a 3rd east-bound lane from Empire to the Twin Tunnels, due to be complete next fall. $47MM of taxpayer money.... and it's going to be a toll lane. Brilliant.

really? I think they're actually doing that construction really well, especially considering the size of the job. and I'm on it, unfortunately, every weekday (though thankfully in a bus most of the time).

To answer your question, Denver-Broomfield is supposed to be finished 2015, and Broomfield-Boulder in 2016.

When did CDOT change the speed going down to 470 from the top of Genesee? I noticed for the first time last week it is now 65 instead of 55. I always thought 55 was a joke since nobody ever went that slow.

A lady friend of mine just told me that one of her friends just got a left lane ticket. I was ecstatic. Started going off on finally maybe they'll start to enforce it. She didnt agree and said it was bullshit. We got into a big argument about it. Not sure I'll call her again.

Has anyone been on 36 from Lyons to Estes? Is it still slower to go that way vs St Vrain Canyon and past Meeker Park?

So I drove to Denver early this morning. Hit the twin tunnels before it was light. There was something new to me. From the east side of the tunnel eastbound until about 1/3 of the way up the hill the lanes were marked with white LED lights. The whole thing was like driving on an airport taxiway at night.

Well, I'll totally defer to your experience there but it did seem like a fine line between "I can easily tell where the lanes are" to "this is just a chaos of lights".

Can't believe how few people understand the idea of a passing lane and a travel lane. Just bc there's a truck a 1/4 mile up in the travel lane, doesn't mean you should sit in the left lane going 55. It's amazing.

Solution: Lets spend hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars to build another lane for people to block traffic flow in!

This is much better than being more like Europe and enforcing the passing lane law which would raise income for the state.

7 is still the ticket usually. Late nights and early morning might do better on 36

Actually just did 36 yesterday and even with 3 stops at one lane/construction zones, I made it from Lyons to Estes in 40 mins. It's getting closer to completion.

How do they enforce it?

Left lane enforcement is a pipe dream. Too many gray areas.

Chain enforcement or 4x4/ AWD requirements are a much more reasonable proposition, as weather and volume are the main drivers of I70 congestion.
