Norco range and sight series issue

After about 15 rides on my 2014 range 7.1 alloy I noticed that I lost a nut on the lowest rear pivot. Its tear drop shaped and has a nice dish shape in it which inserts into the frame. Turns out Norco doesn't have it in stock yet and they have no eta.

Needless to say i feel dumb for not tightening everything after a few rides and then double checking everything every few rides or so. After calling about half of the dealers in central California trying to find a replacement i found out nobody has them and got wind of 3 other bikes with the same issue.

Just wanted to post this to possibly help anyone else with a range or sight from having the same issue as me.

What does it look like? verbally it sounds like other linkage bolts. Post a pic and stats on it.

I would be harassing them weekly. We had an similar issue with a derailleur hanger that was out of stock on a new frame, after two weeks of harassment parts were getting mailed from Taiwan. Also have the LBS check if any warranty frames have usable parts.
a positive attitude will not solve all of your problems, but it may annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

The fact they don't have extra parts seems kinda lame, let alone the fact that it fell off at all. I rode for years on my entry-level Kona and never touched a linkage bolt.
    This doesn't help, sorry.
That's just odd that they don't have parts "yet". Like they didn't have it in the budget to just order extra nuts when they had the frames assembled in the first place? They need to wait for the ROI on selling the bikes before they could order about $100 in extra tidbits?
I would call them up again and ask them how the fuck they run a bike company if they can't even get an eta on a batch of small parts.
    No longer stuck.

Thank god our resident expert has now weighed in.

It's great that TGR is now the Official Pointless Observation Comment gathering point to be used by dorks who, in their minds, are geniuses of MTB and skiing related information. It's even better that these geniuses are not shy about leaving a steaming pile of word-shit in a TGR comment thread whenever they get bored at work.

Stuckie, MTBR is and always was perfectly suited to someone of your ignorance backing a public face of Know-It-All Arrogance. I suggest you spend much more time there, and much less time here.

C.F. u feel better? S@HM shares one of the same feelings as I do. Live to play the parent company told me to have LBS call warranty dept to have them pull part off warranty frame and then get it shipped. They blew him off. So I found a shop in Santa Cruz that had the same problem and was getting their hands on a few of the factories demos bikes. Since his demo had been down over a month he was gonna rob the part from their bike. Once he said that I knew I could buy him off for the right price and get him to take another and ship it to me. Now I'm just hoping it arrives tomorrow at my LBS.

Main point of my post is to ensure anyone here with a Norco range or sight doesn't have the same issue as I did.

wow, so you now "feel better" because an ignorant fuck who can't ride or wrench on a bicycle "agrees with" you?

when did TGR SR become a psychiatric counseling outfit staffed by fat blowhards who talk a big game?

Please... by all means... contact Norco and tell them, "stuckie agrees with me, you guys fucked up!"

Those guys really don't seem to have their act together. I was looking at getting one of their carbon frames for this year and just getting an answer on availability was like asking someone wholly unfamiliar with the concept of selling the product you work so hard to design (Norco, not he shops). They barely even made those things. I'm not sure they're really ready for the success that comes from making good bike products that results in high(er) sales.

You're not the only one who's had problems with those pivots. Almost every review I've read on them mentions them almost falling out pretty much every ride.

Annoying hardware aside, what do you think of the bike?

    Kidwo,

The bike definitely rides awesome. Climbs great too. Definitely going to change out some components. But for a 3k dollar bike out of the box that has 6 inches of travel I'm pretty stoked.

    The Sky is falling!!!

Not sure how much truth there is to this but... yikes, sounds like a huge bummer. Don't think it's an issue on the Alloy bikes.

I had ordered a Range Carbon 7.1 way back in November, was told it would ship by mid March. After multiple delays I got an opportunity to get in on the first shipment of Intense T275s so I jumped at it. VERY happy with the Intense but was still intrigued by the Horst link bike. Now it looks like I have another reason not to doubt my choice. The shop sold mine within an hour when it came and has another on the floor right now. Good looking bike, feels good too. This sounds like it could be bad for Norco.

edit: looks like the reference is deleted now but apparently the issue is frames are cracking around the guide tabs.

    Check ur box....

Also been on 4 rides since and checked the bolt after each ride. It was a little loose this morning. Gonna head to the hardware store and get the strongest lock tight I can buy. Also I would like to have a 2nd and 3rd replacement part to keep in the backpack just in case. It would suck to be riding d-ville and loose one.

For real. NOW you guys show up? Here of all places? Lots of people, myself included, have been hitting you up on your facebook page and there are multiple threads on other bike forums trying to get info on the new carbon bikes that people have ordered and paid for. No info whatsoever from you guys and many still don't have thier bikes (and might not this season from the sounds of it). No offense, I like the bikes and the company but your PR needs work. I know there were factors beyond your control but a little communication goes a long way.

Of course this is all first world problems, just sayin though...

won't speak for LTP but Norco Canada has always been ez to deal with and have always stood behind their bikes/frames. I would have no problem buying a new Norco. they've replaced a lot of older frames. hope you get it dialed. nice bike by the way. one of my top 4 picks

Hope they step up and take care of this. I have had my eye on the Range since they started hyping it on the webbernets.

Circumstances prevented me from getting one but now its ok cause I will be dropping cash on another bike. Not because of this issue.

Sorry, beaterdit. We have dedicated staff (albeit very busy this time of year) that work with our Social Media responses. I, personally, was logging into TGR for the first time while looking for some written copy from a tester (Kristen Gross) and decided to see what the latest forum communication was regarding our Norco product.

With that stated, we completely understand the concerns regarding the Range Carbon. We, too, want to ride the bike ASAP. Before we can release it though, we need to make certain it warrants our Lifetime Warranty (as we do with ALL of our bikes) and our manufacturing standards. There is more information coming soon, so please keep in-touch with your local bike shop.

When you guys get the process dialed, make more than 30. The buzz around these things is nuts. You'll sell them.

Copied from an Email I received from DrewE

"In our first batch of Range A7.1 and A7.2, we had seen some of the assembled bikes where the lower pivot-bolt was not complete covered with blue Loctite. Make certain that you have it completely surrounding the threads. The “bad ones” have only a strip of Loctite on one side of the bolt (and it was not full to the end of the threads that secure the nut. As an additional note, make certain that the Loctite has time to cure before you thread it into the bike. This process of curing/drying should take NO LESS than 6 hours for blue, 24 hours for Green (highly recommend you start with blue). Be certain to check both the drive-side and non-drive-side lower-pivot bolts for similar Loctite needs."

I hope this fixes your problem. Regarding this remedy for the bikes that I have had this happen with in the US, none of them had backed-out for a second time with the fresh blue Loctite install. I feel confident that you won’t need additional bolts.

Well I don't think it was because they didn't build enough of them...maybe needed to build them better.

I don't envy being Kurt or Pat right now, not a fun situation for a reps life.
