Was riding the breck gondola - and was with a dad and his son, the dad had a snowboard. They were clearly new at it. Anyways, all their gear starts immediately sliding around and falling all over the place as we take off. I'm not a boarder myself, but I know a lot of my friends slide their board into that support bar and it kind gets wedged against the window there.

I suggested this, and he declared "I don't want to scratch up the window - like I'm sure your friends have" as he proceeds to flail around with his gear. Before we got out, his board slid over to me and hit me in the knee. Nice.

It's a gaper's paradise. I try to avoid them for this reason - but at breck you have to use them if you want free parking. I will wait for ages just to get into one by myself to avoid the inevitable. But these guys snuck in at the last moment. Bahaha and that would be epic.

It was about +9 and the brightest sun you've ever seen with no wind. Rode a lift with a family of 3. I had my gloves off and all vents open, and the sweat was pouring out of me after one run. I hear the father say "gee that wind has a bit of a chill to it, just going to pop into the lodge to buy a fleece". The wife says "yes it is freezing, why didn't you bring your fleece?" The father says "I did, I even wore an extra one but I need one more." Obviously never been outside the house in winter before????

Overheard a dad talking to patrolman about some double black terrain, "My sons are hockey skaters, so they should do fine."

Haha I see this at Whistler constantly. The weird one is the park rats who always have balaclavas/Airhole masks, a toque and goggles on under their stupid helmets when it's -1C and warm in the alpine. How the hell are they not dying under there.

fuckin' toques under the helmet drive me crazy, like a helmet isn't warm enough? if you can fit a toque under your helmet it doesn't fit.

Saw a guy today at a local resort wearing a Groucho mask---big black glasses, big nose, big bushy mustache. Classic. Except that when I looked closer, it wasn't a mask. I could have SWORN it was.

BTW--what's so gaper about thinking they bring snow in--they've been moving a lot of it around here this season. Sob.

The chair comes around the bullwheel, rocks the guy in the hip, knocks him out of one of his skis, and throws him about 20 feet forward.

    Everyone was surprised.

Similar experience at Jay Peak last Thursday. I'm killing time on the Taxi Chair (read: lower mountain easy chair) waiting for the big lifts to open at 9 am.

Ski on, solo, chatting with the liftie, all is good. In my peripheral vision I see gaper guy rushing up, apparently trying to join me on the chair, even though there is no line. Does he know who I am? He is, literally, running on skis.

This all happens so fast, liftie has little time to react before hitting the kill switch, my chair comes around the bullwheel, takes out gaper and finally stops so I can conveniently sit down. I look at the liftie, and strangely, he asks me first: "are you OK?" Ya, man, no problem. Meanwhile, gaper guy is on all fours, looking up at liftie while female companion cringes in the the background: "hey, we have never been here before!"

Dumbass boarders in the Olympics...60 degrees and they all wear balaclavas under their helmets...then rip off the helmet as soon as they finish...

All the while alpine event skiers are unzipping skintight speed suits to cool off...

    WTF moron boarders?

after seeing all the lovely ladies half dressed in betty dee's thread, i'm curious how being half dressed affects the survival expectancy if you get buried.
