Actually no I don't, this is obviously a very touchy subject if a simple comment like that seems to justify hurling insults...some that were extremely bigoted too.

I guess "vibes+++" seemed sarcastic coming from a non resident, poor choice of wording on my part.

I made that drive for the first time in a few years on a Sunday and after witnessing the traffic coming down I genuinely feel bad that the pressure release of engaging in outdoor activities has to be ended with a shitty drive like that. Mainly for the weekend warriors because I am one myself.
I imagine weekdays are still a lot better/manageable as they were when I lived there, that drive wasnt bad at all.
This was the first time truly witnessing the weekend traffic at peak time and I was pretty amazed at the volume.

You hit upon a common recurring theme of this board (and other skiing boards), the "competition" between Denver/CO and SLC/UT. It's not so much a touchy subject as it is that you seemed to be playing the normal part, and got the normal retort in return. Hurling insults is a part of this place, what you got were actually pretty mild given that you seemed to be the one in the glass house throwing a stone. I don't think anyone took real offense and you shouldn't either.

Here you have it, CDOT reports it is not financially feasible to build out high speed rail along the I-70 & I-25 corridor

    http://www.coloradodot.info/news/201...-speed-transit

CDOT Finds Benefits and Financial Challenges to High Speed Transit
February 19, 2014 - Statewide Transportation Plan - DENVER – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) issued two draft reports today summarizing the feasibility of high-speed transit systems in both the Interstate 70 Mountain Corridor and I-25 Front Range Corridor.

Both studies – conducted by CDOT’s Division of Transit and Rail (DTR) and a team of outside experts – confirmed high speed transit is technically feasible in both corridors, but not financially feasible in either corridor at this time.

“It is clear that we currently lack the financial capacity to build either of these projects,” said DTR Director Mark Imhoff. “However, the studies show that a statewide system could provide many benefits to the businesses, individuals and tourists that depend on our interstates and provide a roadmap for capitalizing on improvements in the local, state and federal financial climates when they happen.”

The studies envision a statewide system with up to 340 miles of high speed transit between Fort Collins and Pueblo and between Denver International Airport (DIA) and Eagle County (see attached graphic). With travel speeds of 90 to 180 mph, the system could save about one-fourth to two-thirds from the time it takes to drive the same trips in optimal travel conditions today. The system is forecast to serve 18 to 19 million passengers a year in 2035 (4 to 6 million in the I-70 Mountain Corridor; 12 to 14 million along the Front Range).

Significant travel time savings are also expected. For example, a trip from C-470/I-70 in Golden to Breckenridge would take just over a half hour and travel to Vail would take 50 minutes. Along the Front Range, traveling from Fort Collins to DIA would take less than 40 minutes, and Colorado Springs to DIA would take less than an hour.

However, the system is expensive. Preliminary capital cost estimates range from $75 million per mile on the Front Range to $105 million per mile in the Mountain Corridor, with an estimated $30 billion price tag for the whole system ($16.5 billion from DIA to Eagle; $13.6 billion from Fort Collins to Pueblo).

Dividing the system into smaller, less-expensive segments that could be implemented in phases also has significant financing challenges. Input from the financial community leads CDOT to believe that a maximum of $1 to $3 billion could be obtained in private financing, leaving a capital-cost gap of billions of dollars. New local, state and federal funds would be needed to cover this shortfall.

    A Competitive Colorado
Population along the Front Range is anticipated to increase from four million today to six million by 2040. During the same time period, population in the I-70 Mountain Corridor is expected to double to 400,000.

In many parts of the world, high speed transit offers a solution to congested highways and congested airports for countless travelers. Many U.S. regions also are upgrading existing commuter rail tracks to high-speed standards or building new high-speed transit systems.

CDOT will not make any commitments at this time, but will weigh the pros and cons with local, regional, and federal partners. The Draft Advanced Guideway System Feasibility Study for the I-70 Mountain Corridor is available at http://www.coloradodot.info/projects/AGSstudy. The Draft Interregional Connectivity Study for the I-25 Front Range corridor is available at http://www.coloradodot.info/projects/ICS.

How soon before we having flying cars and don't have to worry about sitting in traffic?

^^^ I think you meant to say that it's NOT financially feasible. No surprise.

You might be the last person on the planet to have seen that video. How's that feel?

16.5 billion from DIA to Eagle isn't THAT expensive. Build it. PPP (Public Private Partnership)

Edit: Fuck it. Start it in Morrison and save a few hundred million.

    I'll help

after the epic fail of I70 feb 8th weekend, every front ranger bailed on presidents day weekend to avoid another mess, so then every front ranger said I'll go to the mtns the weekend after thinking they had some sort of fresh idea no one else had, so expect a total mess this weekend on I70, epic lift lines, and epic go pro usage predicted

My friends always ask why I fly into to eagle instead of DIA.

30 minutes to boots on, 20 minutes to the airport in the morning of departure.

And it's usually cheaper! Thanks VR.

I heard they shut down the eastbound today for a 5 ton piece of marble that fell off a truck. Not the same as fucktards driving Toyota tercels up the passes but still. Pretty sure I need to just move before I give myself an aneurysm.

The train is the only way! You 30b is too much? Ask what the cost of more lanes on i70 will be. It's less up front but more over time. The train has a 50-70 year life for that price. The road with more lanes is more than 4x the price and that's just for 20 years. Do the math. Expanding i70 is outdated when it is finished. You would have to have 4/5 lanes today to fix the problem and on a bad weather day your back at 2 lanes with crap cars.

Cdot needs to impose the 4x4 limit and see what happens.

I70 was built to handle normal loads of people not a state of 5-7 million.

The same a-holes that are stealing our water and wasting it on grass in Denver.

Buy some good snow tires and a good 4x4 and plan your drive. Come early and stay late. Goi70 if you want to come to summit.

There is a price to pay for fun, the same one you pay to go to a broncos game. It's a pain for a few mins for a few hours there. It's a pain for a few hours for a whole weekend in the mountains.

If you don't want to pay for a road or a train and don't fund the road system ( you had a chance last year and said no colorado voters) then you get to sit in traffic.

I pay a price for living in summit with high housing and crap jobs.

You pay a price to live in Denver, a cheep place to live and no skiing and long drive time to the hill.

Life is a choice. Have fun in traffic

Fuckin A well said. Life is all about priorities, once you make those choices there's no point in bitching about the outcome.

Now everybody get the fuck off I70 'cause I'm driving up from Boulder in the morning!!!!!

I must agree with Frank. All ,,about choices.

There are additional benifits for working commuters with high speed trains too.

I don't know what planet you live on, but living in Denver, especially central Denver, is certainly not cheap.

Bitching about people living in a metro area. Standard bullshit summit county attitude. Guess what? There are almost 7 billion people in earth

    With all due respect,

Living in downtown Denver is not cheep. I know $300 a sft or more on the low side. So is breck or copper or the cove.

Look at what most people in the downtown area make as compared to people in the hills, not a complaint just pointing it out.

It's a your right. I know I would pay $40 bucks round trip (the projected cost to dia if you look at the study's) rather than drive. That's half of CME.

I did live in downtown Denver for a time, not my thing.

I'm not sorry most of you sit in traffic but I know that if you get in a car on a Wednesday at 9 am or at 3pm on a Tuesday and drive from Dillon to the Denver it takes 55 min and I never sit in traffic.

    It's timing people

96% of the time i70 is empty, the same volume you will find in goodland ks.

However if you dicks want to all go home or come ski at the same time this is what you get. A long drive followed by long lift lines.

If you want to be a bum or act like one tell your boss/wife/family(naked sister) you don't like lines and ski midweek like us, it's fun.

Or we can spend lots $$$ on more lanes for a road that does not need them except 4% of time cuz of poor choices made by people that like peak 8 on Saturday

Choose to live in Denver and add to the problem with poor timing or change you habits and help out.

Stay the night on Sunday. We have great deals on food and lodging and go home early on Monday for work.

I'm not trying to be a dick it just comes to me easy, I know traffic sucks. As long as a large amount of people come in cars that can not handle a high alpine environment at the same time to do the same think this problem will not go away.

    Enjoy the drive today
