Nice spiel Dibbster, keep the stoke comin'.

Since Rog is on ignore, I gotta assume he's pissin' on your parade and buffing himself up, wanking his tiny jealous prick into a frenzy, amiright? So drearily predictable.

Can I interrupt the thread cunting for a second to ask a couple questions?

I'm considering the 10(.5) hour drive from sunny Oakland to Utaaah tomorrow in the hope of finding some snow. Never skied in Utah before, so I'm trying to figure out where to go (and if it's worth the drive)

I've got a pass that'll get me half price tickets at Canyons, but I'd rather stay away from the resorts. It looks like your snowpack has settled down a bit from the avvy report.

Worth the drive for someone who's completely snow starved and would rather not go hiking or biking again this weekend (waaaaah, woe is me)?

I've been touring for a few years and took my avvy 1 class in case anyone wants to show me around.

not sure of the snowpack in summit county. the conditions in bcc and lcc are "ok". there is little public transit from slc to summit so if you ski canyons it may be best to stay in pc!!!!

The plan was to drive, so I'll have wheels. I'd rather tour somewhere off the beaten path than ski canyons, so I'm not tied to any spot. Open to suggestions.

Question No, say it ain't so...at least you have a base, right?

    F#*%ing Californicators!
    And here's another one..or two...or...uh oh...

Cindrz & me are heading to AltaBird 1st week of Feb (2 - 7). Hoped it'd be nice, soft snow.
    But then I see:

    Damn!

We want to bring our 179Lhasa's with us.
Mine only got like 3 outings up at Tahoe last year.
Cinderz's got mounted today, and are unused! (Black/White topsheet, softer flex, very sexy - thanks Splat!)
    Do Y'all think that's a bad idea?
Wait a week & check the forecast?

We could bring our 164BRO's with us instead (yes we are small & weak, like little girls), but we've been using them, up at the Tahoe resorts, and they are getting pretty beat up by now.
(Thanks to Kirkwood, mostly. No regrets. Hella fun skiing.)
I mean, they WOULD be better in the bumps I guess - we are looking forward to skiing bumps NOT gouged out by snowboarders.

But, you do have a decent base right? Like more than the 20" we've got?

    So what's SFB talking about?
We'd be happy to hear your thoughts/comments...

Looking to investigate the birthday chutes saturday. White Pine to NW ridge or Scotties direct to ridge? All splitting if that matters.

Please excuse the SpAm, but I wanted to invite the Utah Mags to a rad movie I had the pleasure to be a part of:

Jeremy McGhee courageously leaves his wheelchair behind, and erases boundaries to achieve one of the purest victories ever captured on film. We chronicle the training, preparation, and realization of his newest feat of inspiration - climbing and skiing one of the steepest and most ominous backcountry lines in North America - with legs that don't work.

21+, Q&A with Jeremy McGhee to follow.

Alright...I'll probably get torched for this post, but I'm in somewhat the same boat...

Coming in Saturday until Feb 3, and taking an Avi1 class out in PC.

    Do I bring:

    JJs (w/Dukes)
Alpha1s - my bud out there has some TSTs (short for me) just in case of a stray pow day and I'll just rent touring skis for the class.

Any insight would be great...these weather predictions are getting squirrely. Also, I'm nervous that if I'm just pushing around PC on my JJs, I'll regret bringing the Alphas.

skiing still good if your willing to walk a ways, exits can be painful, a little rock hopping required.

Looks like it's a choice between groomers, death cookies, or rotten mank inbounds in the resorts in LCC. Still pretty tho... beats not skiing here.

Potential pattern change looks exciting - I'm Gonna be out that way for a week with the extended family end of feb/beginning of March... So I've got time for snow to come, but my flatlander family needs to book some ski rentals.

I'm noticing tons of shops with discounts for advance booking, any mag preferred recommendation? Again this is just for run of the mill "sport rentals" or whatever. Anywhere one of you guys could get referral credit if I send peeps your way?

For my own benefit, I'll be looking to get out and tour some of the wasnatches with any willing mags. Will post closer on.

I know it's not the -W-a-s-a-t-c-h-, er Cottonwoods, but just wanted to say that UAC did a hell of a job with the Freeride Avalanche Clinic at Snowbasin the last 2 days. Pretty awesome kicking it with Craig Gordon, Gordy, McLean, Brant Moles, Ian McCammon and many many others who deserve to be name-dropped. Three thumbs up!

One more LCC invasion for me this coming weekend - then probably milking our own Tahoe teets for a while after that ...

That's good to hear. This storm came in awfully liquid-y at 7000 feet.
