    Does Alta allow that?

A few years ago there was a guy in a banana suit skiing with a guy in a gorilla suit at A-Basin. The lift rides must have been tense.

The best closing-day costume I've ever seen was ten years ago at Loveland. Guy had two monoskis with two bindings side-by-side on each one, and an extra fake leg attached to the outside of each real leg with a ski boot, thus becoming a four-legged skier. It was incredibly awesome, and I'm surprised I haven't seen it since.
Change is good. You go first.

One of my buddies just found some clips on YouTube that reminded me of a gaper moment I had last season.

So we're queuing for the Peak Chair (gaper error number one) on a bluebird pow day. The Peak is primed and people are getting after it. We look to the left of Air Jordan and see two skiers start to make their way down the face.

Buddy: "Where are those guys going?"

Me (being the supposed "expert" on the area): "No idea - maybe they were looking for Air Jordan and got lost."

The skiers keep picking their way down and start to traverse above the cliff.

Buddy: "Jesus, can they get out of there?"

Me: "No way, there's no line there. They're going to have to hike out."

The skiers stop above the cliff.

    Buddy: "You sure?"

Me: "Seriously, there is no line there. No. Line."

    Then this happens:

    http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vZJ0BXIP5RU

    Followed by this:

    http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KkzEgZMHPMw

    Riiiiight. No line.

I'm just glad the guy with the camera wasn't standing near us or that would have been the soundtrack....

Not a quote, but I saw a dude in line at good ol snowy range (for those who don't know, it's a nice little mountain but is not overflowing with "teh gnar" by any means) about to head up the blue lift with his dakine heli pack on complete with external shovel carry. Perhaps he was going to a secret stash and building booters, but it didn't appear that way. Guess you never know when you might get buried on a 700' groomer...

Hah, not sure on the first drop (haven't seen that one done before) but the skier's right cliff is called Idiot's Way (for some reason I think the other one is No Way?)

Don't claim to be core, don't care who he is, or what his name is. I've seen him at Loveland before, but was never lucky enough to "capture" his awesomness on my game camera (GamePro).

Lighten up Francis; nobody cares how long either of us have been at Loveland.

I went skiing at night in St. Louis, MO recently. About 300' of vertical and a bunch of first timers. One of the preferred methods of skiing is to straight line until you get the speed wobbles and yardsale something fierce, then laugh and collect your gear. Very few people can turn or stop.

The bottom of the hill is flat for maybe 30 yards, then a slight uphill embankment to help slow you down/stop you from skiing off the end of the run. Like most man made places, the snow/no snow transition isn't very subtle.

So this poor bastard straight lines from the top, coasts across the flats, runs over some guys tips and fully yardsales about 10' from the end of the run... ramps right off the end, barrel rolls twice in the air, and lands on frozen grass about 25-30' away maybe 8-10' drop? He landed so hard he bounced and got knocked the fuck out (helmet on). It was one of the worst ski crashes I've seen.

He landed in the middle of where all the people are standing.

You can see the angle and size of the drop/ramp/end of run in this picture. The pile of gear to the right is where his yardsale collision went down I'm pretty sure.

    On a lighter note...

This group of guys were all in camo and had a fantastic five way low speed crash. They aren't resting, they all collided at the bottom of the bunny hill.

See that speeding blur of camo on the right of the frame? He and his buddy bit it a few yards past their friend's pileup.

Note that I'm not really making fun of these guys for wearing camo, but rather the crash. They were having more fun than anyone I've ever seen on a real mountain. I'm pretty sure they were having a better time than most of us would with a helicopter and 6 feet of snow. Camo or not, that gets respect.

I was eating breakfast in the dining hall this morning and overheard these kids (obviously new to skiing) talking about buying new skis. One of them (the expert) was trying to tell the others that with the level of current technology in skis there was no need for anything over 160cm. It was a pretty fckin funny conversation.

Can't wait for the follow up next week…

"Hey guess what guys, I just got myself some shorty bacons for all 6'2" of me."

I read this on some skiing forum:

"i rode like an asshole a couple of times friday. after 3 years of barely being able to ride i just want to bomb everything with long turns catching air on rollovers. some people -- all skiers to this point -- seem to think it is their duty to cut boarders off with extra wide turns that literally take up the entire run making it difficult to pass. i had two old fuckers decide they were taking the same line i was no matter where i went. i finally blew by them and then did my face plant at the bottom of the cascade lift only to look up and see them giving me stern looks.

anyway, i didn't cut anybody off, but i knew where i wanted to go and some people dick around forever deciding how they are going DOWN and i just go.

also rode the lift with an old wrinkled lady with alta stickers on her skis. i was so close to asking "is it true that alta is for nazis?" and if she hadn't been so close to death already i would have."

I'm in stl and this is my home turf. I don't love it but I don't hate it either. And it's 310 ft of vertical by the way. The camo kids do always look like they're having fun.

I'll be out there one more weekend before heading to berthold pass and loveland. Look for me with a black fstop backpack and lime green BD zealot skiis...

Gaper quote from the dude in the ski rental shop when I asked to borrow a stone, "We don't sharpen or wax any of our skis. People would go to fast and you really don't need to on fake snow."
