anyone know what conditions are like in eastern NV? thinking that the Ruubs might be in since we aren't. Plus UTah has been getting some decent storms. I would go anywhere fairly close with snow

Bend is doing well and only a little further than the rubies. Not sure how crater lake did with the last storm but that's about the same as the rubies

Ouch. I tried to be conservative, but the only sort of tracked drew me in. My bases did poorly, but not that poorly.

Ventured up to the crest today up cabin creek. Found some nice soft turns on the NE facing terrain off of Tinkers. From the top of Tinkers up there you can really see how dry it is. Maybe 10 percent coverage from the buttes all the way down to south shore. I hope it looks better when I get back in April, until then Ill be riding deep pow in Chamonix!

Still waiting for some snow. Sure. I'm headed up this weekend. Will take the little guy out and maybe burn a few laps.

Then I'll come home as quick as possible. Sure we need snow and rain, but the surf is about to be pumping again and it will be in the upper 70s on my deck. This crappy weather does not seem so horrible.

It is going to take about two weeks to finish the third, and last, of my lower retaining walls. So I expect plenty of water come February.

Question. Is it in any way worth heading up to rip some groomers at alpine or squaw? Would like to warm up a bit ready for an 8 day trip to Nelson. But it is 70 degrees in SF today.....

^^ Might as well get / keep your legs in ski shape before an 8 day trip. Don't want to be dragging ass when the getting is good. That's my philosophy anyway, so I'll be making the drive up.

The N* groomers ski'd surprisingly well yesterday. Hadn't been there since before Xmas and the coverage was much better yesterday. And the place was a ghost town.
Gonna head down towards NV City with the bike tomorrow. Supposed to be 73

Snowbyrd and I went to AM Monday and still hit rocks all over, but pleased to find more runs open and mostly covered thanks to the snowmaking. It's nice to be surprised that condis actually improved over the dry stretch (plus 4" this weekend) instead of just melting/getting scraped/deteriorating.

x2... That is unreal and cannot even imagine what you had to have hit... I learned my lesson last year through a buddy of mine... We were skiing in the trees with shallow cover and he hit an object hidden, which resulted in him impaling himself on a stump... He was rushed to the local hospital via ambulance and after surgery and 4 days in the hospital he is just now getting back to where he was at almost a year ago... The snow may be epic, but trust me it aint worth it... Be safe...

Pretty sure it was a rock on a south facing aspect under summit chair at alpine. The skis have over 300 days on them so I imagine they aren't as solid as they used to be, I'm just happy that the edge broke off rather than blew out completely. I'm also happy that I didn't die or get sutures.

Anybody try uphilling at Sugar Bowl during busy operating hours? I'd like to get some exercise and time on new touring gear this weekend, but I'm fearing the holiday downhill traffic.

They were hurting but i've been hearing reports of 2-4 feet in central oregon last weekend. Don't know how much made it south to crater.

Had some excellent turns today at Carson Pass
Kind of a wallowfest on the way up since Maura doesn't have gear.

Nacho of course had no problem

There's some fun stuff, and like TahoeJ said, you don't want to get where it's good without your legs back.
