-60 something on George. Cold. Tonites storm will be some fluff. Hope the storm slows down, sticks around longer and the totals jump.

Call placed and oil in 15 minutes. Thanks for good service!
This does not sound good!!! Glad you were able to get somebody on the horn to save the day and quick.

Still a balmy -7 here about a 1/2 mile from the 38° warm waters of the lake. The dog has 0 interest in venturing out for her standard morning patrol of the property...took one step into the garage and turned around, promptly returning to her warm bed, smart!

Now you got me repeating the Serenity prayer. Won't get up to the house until Friday. I have this recurring nightmare of an indoor hockey rink and an icefall on the staircases.

I put in sensors in the cabin and get alerts for various stuff, but gotta pay for the service. It's worth the piece of mind, but I bet you can do it yourself if you have wifi connection?

-21 at the house here MOTNEK. A town north of here that has an island in a pond was -32! Glad it was only -9 in the garage. The dog took care of her business quickly this morning
And when the hell did Vermonters get so soft that they started closing schools due to cold? There were only a few of them but come on, -20 is just barely "really cold". Shit growing up here we were out diving in the snow wearing woolies that were barely wooly while waiting for a bus with broken heaters and you never heard us or our parents complain

I've got WiFi at the house, briefly looked at something called The Nest(?) thermostat, I've been winging it so far keeping the temps above 50 in the house and banking on frequent enough visits but these kinda temps make me nervous. I shut off the well pump, flip the breaker and cut off water supply, keep doors and cabinets open kinda stuff for now. Any gizmo that you would recommend for temperature alert and/or power outages?

I saw the Island Pond reading this morning, VT's version of International Falls...that definitely qualifies as a DRY cold! You forgot to mention the 2 mile walk to get to the bus stop.

Joe's Pond is getting an extra thick early layer this season, might be a mid May winning ticket if this keeps up. I'll take 5/12 at 4:20 PM, grab me a tik will ya.

I have never put anyone on my list until today (edit: make that 2 on the list)

So cold up here that the snow is staying south for the most part. At least I'm already at 85% of the deepest record depth at my snow stake from the last 3 years.

agreed. an awesome setup! even tho some rain is expected, temps seem to stay on the cold side in the mountains. then xmas week looks clear/cold giving it the lock down. was so nice to drive north yesterday and have EVERYTHING look like winter, before xmas. I seem to remember many winters driving north where it would be brown town to at least plymouth nh for a good part of the winter.

Ahhh, I so enjoy reading the morning avy report from Jeff Lane, Frank Carus, Chris Joosen, etc. Just doesn't seem like winter until the daily report is up. Could these moderate South winds have brought an early season dump on Dodges? May it be skiable soon (with a schwack to Hillmans)?

SNOWPACK:Today we are celebrating the first significant avalanche cycle of the season. The headwall of Tuckerman is littered with fracture lines. Judging from the amount of reloading that has taken place, I believe these occurred sometime late yesterday. Prior to yesterday’s loading
event, there were small debris piles on N-facing slopes along the Boott Spur ridge, such as Dodge’s Drop, Diagonal (in Tuckerman), and Cathedral. Hillmans also has a couple of distinct crown lines visible.

you should build a rink. rain will cheer you up real quick, because trying to get a water pump to work at -20 sucks more than realizing you took the time to read 2 bloated anusi spurt at each other.

it was actually nice up on the hill, -2, creaky styrofoam carving, and its not a dry cold, its a quiet cold, could hear the dog fart from 50 yards this morning
