9 rounds in 6 days in Northern Michigan. Highlights were 75 at Arcadia Bluffs and 75 at The Heather in Boyne Highlands. Average score for the 9 rounds was 78 which is right at my handicap so no sandbag from me. I won $500 in the pool competition. Putted well for the first four days but I didn't have time for my drills and it went south the last two and probably cost me 8 shots the last two days.

My game is very close to being steady.

Hard to beat Michigan golf in the summer

I don't think I have posted in this thread yet this year, last year I was struggling to break 100 and I posted a swing video and some of you gave some good tips.

This year I have kept playing/practicing a lot, I just broke 90 for the first time with an 88 (slope rating 137) last Wednesday and then followed that up with my PB on 9 holes a few days later, carding a 40. Pretty stoked, I feel like I am actually playing the game now instead of just hacking it up, and I still have tons of room for improvement. I could see myself breaking 80 in a year or two.

    5 pars including 4 in a row, 5 bogeys, 4 doubles.

I could have just as easily shot 95. I got a few unlucky bounces and compounded at least one with poor decision making and of course an enormous choke. I was standing at the 9th tee with 40. 17th tee with 43.
dead serious, Play some rounds of 9 with just Putter / 8 iron / 5 iron. or one club up or down from listed.
You will score much better and make full bag decision making much better in the future.

i only used my driver maybe twice and i've been hitting it a lot better, too. everything else a 3H or 4H off the tee. 7 iron is my go-to club. and then a wedge. it wasn't club selection that killed me. i choked on 9 knowing i had a chance to post a really good score for myself. and same on 16, 17, 18 with a chance to blow 100 out of hte water i put 3 tee shots in a row in the water without having lost a ball all day.

a year ago i would have been furious and frustrated, but other than screaming "YOU FUCKING CUNT" when i bladed a greenside bunker shot with still a slim chance to break 100, what i took away from this was that 1) my swing is improving. i was hitting straight and high and long all day for me. honestly only a few really bad shots that hurt me. made some long putts to save par and bogey. made some great sand shots. stayed cool and focused. felt the best i've ever felt. so i know i can do it. it was the first time i've felt like i had some control out there. just have to quit plugging numbers in toward the end and focus on what i'm doing.

not to ignore what you're saying at all, that's basically what i've been doing with the hybrids, 7 iron, wedge, putter.

Yeah, do not sit there and add up your score after every hole. Just write down the number and move on. Tally up everything after each 9.

The first time I broke 90 I had no clue where I was going into the 18th hole, but I knew I was playing well (for me). Unbeknownst to me, I needed a par to do it and ended up with a birdie on the hole. I almost certainly would have choked if I knew I was at 85 with one hole to play.

I used to play in a 3-club tourney back in the day. It was tons of fun. I would spit on club faces to gain distance... Putt with 3 wood.

Shot my high number of the year in our Old Retired Couples League. I had a good swing going on the range but smothered my opening tee shot and it was lip outs and missed fairways until a sand save for my only par on 9. I think my game was hurt when I needed to help avert a spousal meltdown on 2 when the wife (shoots high 50's for 9 ) got called on a wiff by my opponent. We both laughed with each other when 3 holes later the guy stubbed a tap in and didn't count it.

    The ride home was interesting.

i quit adding my score during the round last year. i did it this time after 8 and after 15 because i knew i was playing well and was trying to decide how much room i had to play to break 100 since there was water everywhere. it was definitely a big mistake.

I played in a club match against one of the tonier clubs in the area. I was playing with our pro, who went to the wrong golf course. One of our guys hands their director of golf our line up. The DofG comes over to me and asks me what our guys last names are. I explained to him that since some of our guys might be wanted for questioning, we preferred to keep things less formal.

Played Catamount yesterday. I think it's less of a golf course and more of a ski area without lifts. Wild. 82 from the tips, smoke and mirrors all the way. Haymaker looks really good from the road, I will definitely be back to bag that one.

Mizuno irons are so good it's silly. I play MP 33s still. So buttery delicious.

You start trying to hit better shots than you should and end up with big numbers: Short siding, deep, missed fairways, long putts.

Anyone notice what a quit'r Tiger looked like at the British?

This happens to me on a regular basis. Shot a 47 on the front 9 followed by a 40 on the back today. It does feel much better to shoot a great back nine versus front. You leave the course with that warm feeling.

I went out with a new golfing buddy who said his best round was 94 this year. He shoots 38 on the front nine and I was like WTF you were just saying that to make me feel good! Then on the back nine he shoots 55!!! Golf is a CRAZY game lol!

i played a little twilight last night. i've been practicing a flop at home but i've only tried it once on the course and that was the last time out and i bladed it in the wrong direction.

last night i was on hole 5 at redtail, par 4 with some unpleasant frontside green bunkers. i was between clubs for my approach, so i chose the longer club, and hit it easy preferring to have to hit out of the rough behind the green. my approach landed on the back half of the green and bounced/rolled about 15' over a little mound and settled in the rough. i had about 4' of green to work with to the pin and bunkers behind, and my lie wasn't terrible so i thought, what the hell. so i go for the flop and hit it damn near straight up in the air about 15' but it only went 5' forward. so there i was in the same rough on the same hill with even less room to work with. so i said what the hell and tried again and it was a perfect flop. flew up about 20', landed right on the edge of the green and rolled to 3' from the pin. the random guys i was playing with couldn't believe it because i took a full swing.

anyway, that was pretty exciting. i feel like i just need another shot of playing 18 during the day instead of twilight where it's a constant push to get holes in.

I came in second in a local golf tourney shooting 45-35 when i was like 14. Also put up a 44-34 in a college tournament at one point...but that had a lot more to do with an 10 on one hole than anything else.
