Oh, and request Sasha as your caddie immediately. Either her or "Tour Rich". There's quite a few good ones there, most of them really, but Sasha has been there since day one, is very knowledgable, and the only hot chick in Bandon. Tour Rich is a character who carries a fanny pack with anything you could need, or possibly want. Sasha probably expects $120 per bag per round or more, and Tour Rich probably expects a double vodka red bull at each turn. $80 is required per bag per round, $100 is the standard unless they didn't do a good job.

If you are weary about getting a caddy at all, at LEAST do it the first day. You will learn a lot and enjoy the rest of your trip much more.

Yeah, Nantz is a real cornball. However, I applaud him for the rare show of spine. His interrogation of Fred Ridley, the lead rules official in the Tiger drop circus was nothing short of astounding. Here was Nantz, the usually servile and sycophantic one, grilling a guy wearing a green jacket! I fully expected the world to explode after witnessing that.

Just confirmed I'm playing Eastlake GC this weekend.

Stoked to see how much higher I can shoot than the winner of the Tour Championship. Or Bobby Jones' record. From the blues.
I still call it The Jake.

I liked Old Mac, but it is a little tricked up compared to Pacific and Bandon, i.e. gumdrop hole, wall hole, etc. That said, I played a memorable first round on Old Mac in hail, rain, and a 25 mph wind. Was happy to shoot a 90 under those conditions.

I think Pacific is beautiful but I score better on Bandon. Trails is a great course that is well worth playing.

in my last two rounds i've been in a bunker once, which is excellent for me. i also hit a perfect bunker shot my one time in greenside. left it 4' from the hole for par.

100 was within reach at the turn last time out, but there is more water on the back nine and i found all of it.

also bought two rotella books and "a good walk spoiled" by john feinstein at goodwill for $12.

played 18 at redtail friday earlybird and again sat supertwilight. tied my best for the front nine on friday and fell apart on the back nine again, but i'm starting to have more opportunities for pars and even birdies.

last night i was having the round of my life -- +7 through 7 but starting on 5 a single came out of nowhere and was pushing hard even though there was nowhere to go with people in front of me. so finally i asked him if he wanted to join me and he did. from then on everything went to hell and i finished the front 9 with 2 triple bogeys and still shot 49 which beat my best ever on the front by 5.

in anycase, i'm starting to hit more FIR and GIR, i'm hitting the ball a lot more consistently -- high and straight with a lot fewer tops and fats, i'm hitting much better approach shots and especially all the work at home on the short game chipping and pitching has helped a ton. starting to eliminate the three putts as well.

it's too bad. i was in a total groove last night and playing with a little pressure from behind, so i felt good about it, but i should have just sat down and let him play through to keep my space. in any case, i played 7 strong holes and am feeling a lot better about my chances of getting below 100 this season.

one highlight: chipping in from 2' off the green for a 60' birdie on the 141 yard par 3 peninsula green (not sure technically, but water on 3 sides) no. 6. it was amazing. it did exactly what i intended to do from landing zone to movement to the hole.

I sent the USGA an email, asking about that ruling, and just got a reply with this statement, done jointly with the R&A. Imho, it fully and carefully explains the ruling, and how it was allowable and appropriate under and only under such unique circumstances. That statement pretty much put the whole issue to bed in my mind.

It basically said the Committee fucked it up, but Tigger shouldn't be penalized for their ineptness. I'm cool w/that.

Have a few photos from last week's Vegas golf trip i'll try to post up tonight.

up all night, fought traffic to get to earlybird on time, got to first tee just in time to play with three guys who play together all the time, promptly embarrassed myself with several poor shots and it was a struggle the whole front 9. i had a decent warmup at home, but got frazzled in the parking lot freeway and everything was off and i was putting way too hard.

so i decided that since it was supposed to be a recon/practice round to prepare to play with my friend tomorrow anyway, i'd just make the most of it and focus on relaxing and the other things in my swing i've been working on. i made a lot of good shots to get out of difficult situations on the front 9 so that was a positive and then on the back nine i started to hit the ball pretty consistently and not get in those difficult situations and make some putts around 5'. even had a couple pars and bogeys.

i'm starting to drive the ball more consistently but with the new driver and better technique i'm hitting it 30 yards further than i did before and now i'm having to rethink when i can use it. basically the same with all the clubs.

i feel great that i can work on so many different things at home that are helping.

i keep making the same game management mistakes -- going for something when i don't have to. or when i shouldn't rather. taking an extra shot to do something instead of taking 4 because i did something stupid. my conscience is usually screaming at me as i address the ball, but i still haven't learned when to step off consistently and take my medicine. i started to do that better on the back 9, too.
