he also seems to value making tough shots after making stupid decisions more than he does winning.

Any recommendations for golf in San Diego? Staying downtown near the airport, so within cab distance.

    River Walk looks kinda nice.

I could play Torrey Pines every day of my life. Not sure about distance, though.

Ok so im in the market for a new driver. So who is hitting what?. Are the new wieghts and adjustable hozel's worth it. Just trying to narrow the search so I dont have to try 30 clubs. FYI coming from a Calloway X 10.5

I borrowed my buddies TM R11 and my jaw dropped. I just couldn't hit a bad shot with that club. R1 might be even better. Conventional advice is get fitted for an adjustable driver and then don't mess with it.

Yes . I have a r11 with on 8* head . I can turn it down to 6* or up to 10* . The fade and draw weighting works well ( beats the hell outa lead tape.
The other advantage is being able to change shafts in about a minute . I like to use a soft shaft when it's cold and a firmer shaft when it's hot ( oh my ) .

pretty easy to find deals on the R9 SuperTri. Still has the draw/fade adjustable tip, and 3 weights. Loving mine...when i put a decent swing on it anyways...

I play the superdeep - I really like being to catch it a little high or low with not much problem, good distance and a much lower flight than my old burner (of course the shaft has a lot to do with that)... I have the 9.5 head, but I'd like to try the 8.5 as I typically hit a pretty high ball. Downside is the loft/lie adjustments are not independent like most of the newer ones.

i thought the idea was to learn how to hit the shots without having a separate club to do each one for you

uh, dude, most people use a driver for longer shots than a wedge, but if you want to just use one club, more power to ya...

the driver/fw/h adjustability is a recent development, if you're not a fan just go out and grab a 580XD and be happy...

I'm not a believer of adjusting heads, draw fade ect, if you've got a good repeatable swing, impact should be made with a square club face.
I've spent hours practicing to get my swing parrot like, if I want to cut or draw the ball I adjust my swing from a neutral.

Like Tiger Woods, who apparently hits his 9 iron as far as I hit my 3 wood.

i like it when they show the distance and the club they're using for the shot on the broadcast. they must have spotters or something? because they don't always show it.

I used to think this, but after playing around with and ultimately buying the TaylorMade R11, now I get it. It's not about the club giving you a draw or fade, necessarily, but making micro adjustments that will generally help you more than hurt. I tend to play a draw off the tee, and sometimes when I really get into one the ball will land "hot" and roll further left than I like. So I open the face just a touch and it mellows out the draw so the flight is more similar to how I hit my irons, without sacrificing distance and improving accuracy. It also makes it a little easier for me to a play a power fade off the tee when the situation calls for it.

Funny/sad to see the golf thread back in action again and it's only March 12th. I actually got out and played last week and was pretty happy shooting a 79 on a tough course after not swinging a club once since early October (I'm sure the rust will kick in during my next round). Annoying part was going 6 over on the par 3's.

you know the pros bend lofts & lies on just about every club right? why not have a club tuned to your personal mechanics so you CAN achieve a repeatable ballflight, then work it from there as the conditions/course warrant?

that's kind of like saying "I'm not a fan of cuff canting on ski boots, you should just ski them straight as the mfg. intended"

You do also know that you can't adjust the club mid round right? You can't play a dogleg right, set up a fade, then set up a hook on a dogleg left. Still gotta swung whatchu brung.
