    Hip...subluxation?

In a bit of a bind here. I have my last final (fortunately) tomorrow evening, but until then I won't be able to see a doc.

Mid step-up/curtsy squat something "clicked" in my hip. I stepped down, dropped the weight and tried to fully extend my right leg. I could not. It hurt. A lot. Drove home, and I'm now researching what may be the culprit. Signs seem to point to subluxation.

I can shuffle around on the toes of my right leg, and I'm about 1/4 bent over at the waist. Anything near full extension of my lower back/hips and leg just isn't happening. Sitting here now its uncomfortable, but not unbearable. As soon as I stand up it gets pretty touchy. Its not spasming, but there is an odd on/off, or rather bad/worse interval to the pain.

Any ideas? Anyone ever had anything like this happen before?

To subluxation your hip with be very traumatic, is no something you just do by squatting.

Form your description it is impossible to even tell where your pain is, forget about where it is coming from.

Too man possibilities to even list, start with a better description of the location of your pain, what makes it worse/better, specifically where was h click you describe?

Yeah, the trauma was certainly not there.

When I try to walk, the pain is at the top of my femur, perhaps an inch right-of-center. When I sit the same area is uncomfortable, but my right ass-cheek starts to feel it. While the ball of my femur is not sticking out, there is some noticeable swelling and increase in size at about 2 o'clock (if the top of my leg is 12), which visibly increases as I try to straighten. The pain is far from superficial, its coming from the depths.

The squat in question requires a lot of mobility from the hip, and quite a load is supported while the hip is vulnerable. I'm hoping that perhaps I've tweaked something and nothing more, but the physical impediment to the straightening of the joint is...weird.

At this point I may just take my study materials to the ER. My lower back is killing me, and I've got a fair amount of burning/tingling on the top of my ass as well as the top of my quad, about 3 inches from the hip.

Edit: Oh, and the "click" was remarkable only because I haven't had any creaks or groans in that position before. It wasn't particularly painful, but did feel significant. If it hadn't been audible I might have described it as a "shift" of sorts.

sacro-illiac? I screwed this up once, and it hurt in my lower back and hip. Just throwing it out there. I'm no doc though. Bummer right before finals.

ya, my guess is sciatica, maybe due to disk herniation, also some big muscles that can put pressure on the sciatica.
put Ice on it, no heat! ....prey it doesn't get worse tomorrow, some time these injuries take a day for the full affect to kick in. might be worth it to get to the ER before the pain gets so bad that it hurts to move, not much they can do other then pain management for the first couple weeks if my "diagnosis" is correct. (which it may not be)

good luck, I've dealt with a couple injuries to the lower back, and I wouldn't wish it even on DBT

Sounds weird, but I wish it was my SI/sciatica, and I suppose it could be, but I've got a lot of experience in the lower back department, and at least I'd know what to expect. You never know though. The interconnectedness of the region can't be overlooked or simplified.

I'd trust your personal instincts and experience over my unqualified e-diagnosis. hope it's OK and am curious to what it is.

ice that shit and start high-dose NSAIDS is about all you can do now.

    EDIT: fixed nsaids mistake

Ok anterior hip pain like that could be a few things.

    Labral tear
    Illiopsoas bursitis
    Hip flexor strain
    Avulsion fracture

Still no way to tell without a good exam.

ER is likely a waste of time. Check with your health center first.

Make sure that tingling and numbness doesn't spread... Lots of nerves in that area.

How much weight were you using and was it on your back or front?

Going in this afternoon to get it looked at. The feeling that there is a blockage of some sort has subsided, mostly. Straightening is still extremely painful, as is walking on anything but my tip-toes and with a hunch.

Neufox, I was curtsying onto a box in front, which I think was my mistake. I've only done standard curtsies w/ bar in which the supporting leg stays put and the "curtsy" leg extends behind. In this case the box was to my left, and I stepped onto it by crossing my right foot over the left side of my body. The weight was not significant, I was holding 40 Lb. dumbells in each hand.

Quick update: Running the Kaiser gauntlet is no fun, first of all. After a week of appointments with apathetic paper-pushers the PT ordered up an MRI, revealing L4 & L5 herniations and a tear of the labrum in my hip.
Fortunately no one seams real concerned about either, and the physical therapist is excellent. Off the weights for a while, easy walk/runs, and as long as I keep the speed down and the board on the ground I'm cleared to ride when I feel comfortable doing so.

Thanks all for the p.m.'s, advice, and support.
