Ha, ha... Finally I may be ahead of the curve on something! Been using wax less since the 70's and bought some fat metal edge Karhu's about six years ago. They are great for touring anywhere, but can't really go up anything too steep... Going down, no problem, though... Yeah. I probably get as many days if not more on these than with downhill.

Oh, and I am trying to make a bed headboard/footboard to match the ski chairma chair that EW made me, so this post is to ask everybody out there in EClandfieldville if they've got extra old straight skis hanging around. Obviously trying not to ship them so if you are nearby or we will see each other sometime soon, any sticks are appreciated!

    Anyone? Bueller??

Agree with the XC set up for those days when Ullr curses the mountains and drops snow in the useless flatland areas or those times you can't get away but still need to satisfy the sliding jones close to home. I've gotten out a dozen times since 2010's midatlantic snowstorms and the occasional dump since then around my house. Valley Forge Park, the Wissahickon hike n bike trails, etc. And XC set ups can come pretty cheaply, I think I spent $230 for a Solly package online and depending on usage, may be the last set you need to buy. nice alternative workout as well to work the same muscle groups.

I am with you. I get out on my bushwackers 5 times for every tour I do on the big(er)gear. Just got hired back on by Norwich and Sinuosity to *reclaim* the local ski hill that closed in '91. Be at it for the next month mowing, lopping, ect. This place is MADE for fat scaled boards. Stoked is an understatement. It's 200 feet from my driveway....lift-free ski hill. 900 vert.

sunday river was pure bliss today. some of the best early season conditions and weather i've ever experienced on two sticks. top to bottom smooth butter on multiple routes down and light crowds. skied 930-2pm with a couple of short walks over to the top of barker from locke to lap right stuff which closed till next weekend when they will re-open the quad. right stuff skied dreamy creamy smooth.

nice to run into so many familiar faces, like old home day.

and nabbed the photo of the day:

nice lighting, me loves the deep corn trail sides:

gonna be awhile till another day like today comes along, like april

i've been preaching waxless and skinny for eons, nice that folks are catching on and seeing the "light"

Skied there many a time when I lived in Barre (yeah, not so proud of that...) many, many moons ago. My dad went to school there and was on the ski team back when they had to do downhill, nordic, and jumping.

I've often wondered about this place as I was driving from Albany to New Hampshire to visit family. It is quite a high base but with easy access off VT 9. They often get better snow than the rest of SoVT when the Nor'easters hang closer to the coast. Going to have to check it out soon.

Think I'm gonna need some of that casey jones to understand the hidden meaning behind all the smileys, if you can call even half of them "smilies"
