Looks like a good base to me. I may not have my avy 1, but it seems to me a little heating and consolidating before the next storm is exactly what we want. Unlike last year where we had weeks of cold temperatures and no precip at all.

Hmmm, next weekend might be time to get the season started. Maybe some beacon practice if nothing else, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for more than a dusting late in the week.

Early season last year... well, the only notable thing about it for me was that it was the first time I'd seen single digit temps on my car thermometer since moving to CA.

Same here, or at least first time in a long time. I remember showing up to Northstar pre-Thanksgiving and it was 2 degrees at 8am with the sun out. It had snowed 10 inches the night before and it was very light and fluffy, so I figured it was a great start to the season. So much for that. I'll take some heavy sierra cement right now over that without hesititation.

Dukes sink you in a slide. Duh. That is what you will learn in Avy 1. If you have not done so, read Tremmer. Every fall. When you get to Avy 1, you will just be discussing a lot of what you've already read. And this - time in the BC, with a good partner, will teach you loads more than Avy 1. For instance, when I started following Powdork around, he explained that I should always keep a multi purpose poker wrapped around my pole. Otherwise, your bowl can get really clogged up when you are miles from the nearest smoke shack.

Friday looks even weaker, possible breaking. But still bringing cold air and 8", or more with the cold fluff. I'm liking the long term that sees another sag south the following weekend. So hoping that we are game on by turkey day.

edit. different model, different story. 1.3" between late Thursday and late Saturday. I like this one better.

Sad how true this is. I'll try not to put my skins on backwards.

Read Tremper's book but definitely feel like I need to re-read parts of it again.

One last plug for the Winter Stoke Throwback this Saturday, Nov 10th at the American Legion in South Lake Tahoe - party starts at 6pm. $5. Charity to Sierra Avalanche Center and SheJumps. We will have an airbag with scaffolding to jump off for people to throw gainers, corks, or some old school tricks. We will also have beacon training, so come early to train and stay late to party.

When I first read that I was shocked, is that really a BRO deal?

But the more I thought about it, a backcountry tool, that I can give to myself and 12 of my partners for Christmas to help keep them safe in avalanche terrain, PRICELESS.......

I ended up with three spare tickets to the upcoming Snowbomb ski shows in Sacramento or Santa Clara. If anyone wants them, shoot me a pm with your name and address and I'll stick them in the mail to you.

Possible foot coming this Thurs Friday. The stoke is still high, even thought The City feels like Miami right now.

And they are all broken in, with a caked on black tar like substance, so they are worth more like pre stressed jeans, or something.

If BA is right, and everything goes as planned, I'll be up on Friday and Saturday. Who wants to ski? Anyone been out to CP/KW recently and can report on coverage post heat wave?

can't speak for carson pass yet, but kirkwood should be doing fine. It was deep up top and well consolidated, and they rolled most everything down low. plus, the sun is low in the sky and the days are short. i would assume at carson pass the stuff above pass altitude is doing okay, stuff below needs more.

If I can get a new touring rig setup, I'm planning on KW on Sunday. Of course, my kids could royally screw up this plan.
