I dunno about the rest of y'all Tahoe area locals, but Stump's Blizzard of Aahhh's is perhaps my favorite ski porn film and personally one of the few of the genre that manages to provide stoke, a story, and actual insight into the skiers, giving it more of a documentary flavor, but still keeping it feeling extemporaneous and fun (i.e. not like a stuffy, educational docu). Additionally, the skiing style of Schmidt, Hattrup, and Plake is so different than what you see in today's films: imho Hattrup is one of the sickest (and smoothest) "extreme" skiers to ever have schussed in the game (Schmidt and Plake ain't too shabby, either, but Hattrup gets my nod as an underrated god of the sport). If you've never seen BoA, then do yourself a favor and hit up SH on Friday!

In terms of Legend of Aahhh's, I've been waiting on this film for years and am glad that it's finally seeing the light of day.

You mean i won't have to be subject to my season pass being inspected almost every time i get on the chair. The most memorable was when I was asked for my drivers license to compare with my pass around 2pm after riding the same lifts all day with my kids.

This is the first positive I have heard since Vail came in. That said, Vailwood managment still sucks balls for closing the RV Lot.

just got back from kirkwood. did a quick bootpack up to the top of sentinel. seems like 4-6" over night though it was hard to tell where the old ended and the new began, meaning it was very consistent and supportive all the way down. pretty sure i'll be back there tomorrow unless the climbing gets good again.

keep in mind for eback travels this was less than 1 inch at kirkwood's base and further west you go (above 8,000') the more they got. still its plenty high enough there.

What is up with that? You must have a suspicious look. Never had issues there. Occasionally had to show the pass. Up until a few seasons ago it was super rare I was ever asked. But I do prefer the reader as the line just flows. I can remember last season, after the Vail purchase, full corrals and empty chairs as the lofty explained to some pissed off Epic pass holder that the ha to actually go to the ticket office to ride the lifts.

4-6. Sounds positive. Watching next week. Friday or Saturday perchance.

So... Anyone still got a spot in a South Lake ski lease? Gotten skunked out of every one that I've talked to.

Any pics of current conditions up there after this week? Is this base going to hold up until mid November when we may have another storm coming in?

BA's now saying that we may have another storm like the last one coming in end of next week so it might not matter.

Crossing fingers and knocking on wood but how cool would 6' of base-building snowfall before Thanksgiving be?

Well it's 60 degree's at house at 5000ft so it's got to be 50 degree's at kirkwood, and with a warm up coming before the next storm at the end of next week, I suspect they will lose most of what little they got.

Boreal shut down already because they have not been able to make snow. cross your fingers.

Ugh, just looked and it'll be almost 80 here. I already packed all my summer crap up, too.

I guess that mid-Oct storm really f-ed with us though. It feels totally doom and gloom having the base melt and all that, but we wouldn't be surprised to not have had any snow yet in any other year. When it comes down to it it's only Nov 2nd. We'd be skiing thin man-made ice at Boreal's WROD and nothing else if there was anything at all this time of year normally, so I guess a weekend of real pow is better than a month of that crap.

To me this is looking like a normal winter around here, just about 2-3 weeks later getting started, I almost forgot what they look like because of the last few years. Storm and then warm, but as it gets more into Nov. it warms less. at least I got a couple of days in at Boreal.

A little melting and snow consolidation in early Nov never hurt no ones. Lay down some glop and keep the early snow warm to set up a stable base for the real meat of the season. Unless you guys like those basal facet layers.

Exactly! let it consolidate slowly so we don't get a repeat of last year.

base melt? was it over when the german's bombed pearl harbor?
hutchski and i went up to kirkwood yesterday to check on this. we found the base to fine, but had no camera or phone. without documentation we might as well not have gone. so i had to go back today and get a picture of the tracks. as you can see, the base was okay as of yesterday

but additional testing was needed. kfactor is obviously unbiased. his username proves it

Things look good to me. Doubt we will get the 2-3' feet next Friday that we got from the last storm. More like 1-1.5 is what is modeled now. But it has been there there last few runs. And that will be plenty to get me out in the pow again. Keep it coming.

I thought you only climbed in AT boots once there was snow on the ground.

UNISYS run this morning is not the most inspiring, but it still shows some snow for next week.
