At the beginning of the summer, I decided to re-commit to golf this season - had been playing only sporadically since ~2006. I started the season at about a 17 handicap, spraying the ball and had developed a nasty over-the-top move (learned about that when I took my first golf lesson at Old Greenwood Academy this summer with some buddies).

At the beginning of the summer, my goal was to get my handicap to a 10...not so I can say I have a low handicap, just because it is the easiest measure of improved consistency (I BLOW UP on a few holes each round).

When tomorrow's GHIN update comes out...I will be a 9.5. Pretty stoked that my game has improved, really in the last 2 months (was working thru a swing change after the Academy clinic). The blow up holes are there, they are just doubles instead of quads...

At any rate, got full golf-stoke going now...party.

Our fall season turns on and off for golf quick. Last couple weeks have been off and on for sure. You east coasters haven't had freezing days yet.

I played in Queenstown Harbor MD last week. Fall is nice out there right now.

i suck. my ballstriking is improving, both at the range and on the course. my short game has improved a lot, but my score is not coming down. i wasn't expecting to shoot 90 or anything, but i figured improving on my 108 best was going to come reasonably easy, but it hasn't.

You must be wasting a lot of strokes getting out of jail. I know you could score better with just your 7 iron and a putter. Try it for a few holes sometime.

yeah, my tee shots are still killing me. well, that and consistency in general. not getting my hips through and casting. everything is just a little bit better but I'm not getting the practice in I was.

Even Tiger kept the driver in the bag when his swing was stinky. Sounds like your driver and low scoring are mutually exclusive. I see it all the time.

I edited the above but I left the driver at home my last two times out before today. I'm getting better and understanding better but I need a lot more reps to try to figure it out to a serviceable degree. I'm also still trying to get settled with my clubs, not that I'd be tearing it up otherwise. I am getting better and more confident inside 100 yards. i need to keep stats I guess to have a clearer sense of the various problems. just feels strange that I would invest as much time as I have and feel like I'm improving and not even improve on 108 from my first season without lessons and crappy clubs and not having an idea about anything. I think part of it is also a performance issue -- doing better in practice but not being able to transfer it to the course.

I have a shitty short game. Admitting your problem may be the first step. I would have shot at least 2 under with a decent short game today, in the wind (20+).

Too bad we can't play a few rounds. Skitobe has really improved his course management and his numbers are headed down even with his unique swing.

Shit, where did you play? I was thinking about playing Highland South just to get that old beginning-of-the-year-Riverdale-Dunes feeling back but ended up doing some studying.

I still have a couple free rounds at Coal Creek and Interlocken I want to get in before it gets much cooler. Thinking about Interlocken next week sometime.

Fossil Trace. Windy as fuck. Great place to play though, in wind like that. Super fun, trying to hit golf shots.

Different strokes for different folks. The man who Arnie, Lee and Jack would agree on as the best ball striker they knew had a unique swing. Nothing wrong with unique if it works.

i played with a guy at heron lakes last whenever who said he was i think an 8 handicap and he had the strangest body motion and swing i've seen in my short time golfing. when he teed off on 1 i thought for sure that he was just lucky driving it straight and long but that's how he was all 18. super nice guy, too. said he golfed a couple years i think and then read hogan's book and it all made sense to him so as far as i could tell he was self-taught and rebuilt his own swing based on that book.

my last post was my kid banging on the keyboard. my kid who LOVES golf, by the way. the two things he brings to me every day if i don't do it soon enough are his golf clubs and my hiking boots. we've been to the range a couple times and he's putted on the practice green several times. he's putting around the house off and on all day..

Dude, I think it is crazy Moe Norman never won a major. He was serious with his comment, that he had not hit a shot out of bounds for 10 plus years.....that is nuts...

He has an amazing swing and built like an old time Mason.

The golf swing uses the same actions as, chopping, lifting, pushing and pulling. Chopping wood is one of the best trainings for golf.

bought a 21deg hybrid/rescue today to replace the 3iron that I never seem to hit. Worried that now I will have a hybrid that I never take out of the bag.

I pretty much just hit driver and wedge on most holes - for sure a bomb&gouge style and really am not sure when this hybrid might be useful. Rarely hit more than a 6 except for par 5's and long par 3's get a 4 or 5i so do I need this thing? Anyone love their rescue?

    4h-185
    5 - 170
    6 - 160
    7 - 150
    8 - 140
    9 - 130
    PW - 118
    52* - 108
    54* - 97
