Atkinson not that it matters but you have your crazies mixed up. terry jones is not the pastor of westboro baptist church. Fred phelps is. Terry jones is pastor of the dove world outreach church in Florida.

Westboro baptist attention whoring strategy is to crash military funerals because obviously soldiers dying is the result of gays. While crazy to no end the majority of the leadership of WBC including Phelps are not dumb hicks, repugnant yes, but anyone who was accepted at West Point, has a law degree, and has successfully gotten a free speech case heard before the Supreme Court is not "stupid".

Terry jones hates Muslims and Islam his attention whoring strategy is to burn The Koran and post links to inflammatory YouTube videos. Terry Jones owns a furniture store on eBay and bought a certificate of divinity online so he could call himself a pastor.

Terry Jones is an unintelligent lout who yells fire in a theater for the attention it gets HIM, Fred Phelps is an articulate, calculating, and media savvy provocateur who uses his protests to draw maximum attention to his church and by extension his worldview. Ignoring terry jones will eventually make him go away, ignoring Fred Phelps should be done at your own risk.
For sure, you have to be lost to find a place that can't be found, elseways everyone would know where it was

One of buddy's brother works at K-ton. He said they're blowing snow like crazy and hope to open in a week or two. Then again this is hearsay. We could be skiing a few hundred vertical feet of crowded fake snow in no time.

I was going to leave this alone hoping it would die but this response made me laugh . . . Well played Rog. Well played.

AK - looking forward to seeing you next weekend. And yes lets tour some this year. Nice pics. Shame Greenleaf hut is not open for good snow years. One could get a lot down in a couple of days there. Guess we could camp . . . hmmm?

ISBD - It has been 14 years since I was at Katahdin (sad but true - not like it is right around the corner or near anything though). On the list this year for sure.
I am not sure how many cabins / bunkhouses there are now but then there was one. It is a helluva lot funner to go up there with a huge crew and sleep in the cabin / bunkhouse than sleep in a tent - heat and the ability to dry out clothes being top of the list. Tables, a bunk and a party room are all extras but fun too. May already be booked but if we can organize something we will want to act soon.
You can now go in to Chimney Pond in one day but still a slog - imho, to make it worth it ya need a least two (ideally three) days to ski / climb. We had a crew of thirteen and still one of the funnest hut trips I have ever been on. I think enough time has passed where they will let me back in! Hell, I might find my liver!?
Maybe start the week in the Chic Chocs and then Katahdin? Or vise versa depending on snow / weather? Anyone?

According to one of the sources I read last night (maybe David Goodman?) winter reservations begin November 1st. We should get a crew together and send in the paperwork early. I'm off March 23- April 2 so a Katahdin - Chic Choc 2fer might be possible.

Good stuff, Rog. Looks like you might become buddies with your stalker (unless of course you are you're stalker). That's quite an accomplishment. Hope we see you at Ullrfest.

Snow confirmed at Stratton and I can see a dusting on Bromley (I can't see Magic from here but I imagine it must have a little white at the top!).

Maybe I'm an asshole for asking, but, are there legal snowmobile trail to Katahdin? I just read the FIS Katahdin TR, said that DEC uses snowmobiles to access the huts, and obviously snowmobiling is a HUGE part of tourism up that way. I would be content with riding a sled into base camp. 15 miles is LONG slog.

^^^^ i think you maybe able to hire someone to take you back, pull your gear, food ect but i am not sure...not sure how far the sleds take you......i would have to agree that a sled in is the ticket....i would like to get in on this trip as well since last year got skunked with the baby bullshit just beofre the trip to chic chocs plus i am in same boat as ISBD with school breaks.....Also i have a sled so if its possible to sled in, i would be willing to haul my sled up and shuttle shit, plus poeple back and forth.

Lynchdogger.....As far as planning over BOOZE , be sure to meet up with ISBD early, we know what happens late night and the next morning.......................
Glad to hear about some snow flying around up north

Sorry to add spam to this, but I've started my own Etsy store to sell hats. If you're interested, check it out. RADAM, DoWork, 1thenaton1, mtnbiker/boarder, njfreeskier can all comment on how sweet these hats are.

    http://www.etsy.com/shop/HatsbyJake

There's a special coupon code for 15% off. If you want to work out a meet up instead of shipping, I can work with that as well.

    Coupon code is MAGGOT

    Thanks!
