after many seasons of don't-ask/don't tell, and then this past season's harassment by everyone's least-favorite ski patroller, Wachusett will formally implement a very sensible and favorable skinning policy for this seasons. (Details to be posted later...)

The skinning season pass will be $40, although a midweek (plus weekend/holiday >4pm) "Bronze" season pass is only $239 anyway with the "SKIVT" GPS club code:
    https://www.wachusett.com/shoponline...4/c-1-gps.aspx
... and the deadline is November 14.
(Once again, if we have at least 10 paid passes by then, I get a free pass, but distribute the proceeds to everyone who purchased by then.)

Nothing like fresh corduroy all to yourself to start off the morning before work:

Cool, seems like a good deal. Are you saying that if you have a normal season pass, they don't mind you skinning up in the AM? I have been getting the Bronze pass for a few years now and love being able to go after work midweek and do some (lift-served) laps. It would be cool to do some super-early skinning to get the blood flowing once in a while.

I am sure glad my feet are so easy to fit [and that Ihave not suffered a tragic injury to them].

DoWork does indeed put in the Work, glad to see some reconigion for your efforts. If time allows Imay join Butta and cut some sticks [and drink a Heddy or 2]

Weather changed again yesterday and the rain held of till 5:30 here. Surface Whore and I rode from 3-5 at bloobs over the freshly fallen leaves. Reds are falling fast but the overall cover is still great, if youwant to see the foliage at its peak, do it soon.
Had an interesting chat with with D******* Hardys right hand man who is doing the hard work building the trails. Find that we share many of the same feelings about the local scene.

Niiiice! Had some on wednesday, followed by an Abner at Worthy Burger on SoRo. GF wouldn't wait around for my to enjoy an Edward after that, sadly, but man, that Ephraim is wicked good. And the food at that place kicks ass. Highly recommended for anyone travelling along the 89 corridor.

And you'd better watch out in those woods VTF, I done heard there be samsquanches

    Exactly.
And it's going to be official this season, so that we don't have to put up with harassment from this once certain patroller (even though everyone has always been totally okay with it).
BTW, the lifts usually open more like 8:45 or 8:50 midweek, even though 9:00 is the official opening. (The retirees are always lined up at the lift like it's a western powder day or something.)
I usually time it to start skinning at civil daylight (wunderground.com gives the exact time for the day you specify, or just start at about half an hour before official sunrise), then take a few laps on the lift once it opens, and I'm *leaving* the ski area at 9:00 after getting in plenty of exercise, more than enough smooth groomer skiing, and some really nice early-morning views.
(I do worry a bit though that arriving skiers might think something is wrong with conditions when they see me leaving so early, but then again I'm in my lycra suit so they probably conclude I'm just totally insane...)

Interesting story developing down south in Harriman State Park. Apparently a former park ranger killed his daughter in law and went on the run in Harriman. Dogs lost his scent so they're on a pretty big manhunt right now. The Times has a story on it and the NYS Parks site currently has an advisory posted:
Advisory: NYS Parks is advising patrons to refrain from hiking in backcountry of Harriman State Park this weekend due to an ongoing, multi-jurisdictional police search. The park, located in Rockland and Orange counties, will also close its Beaver Pond Campground until further notice.

heh, i love when they do the evening grooming. folks line up at the rope just salivating for the fresh cord. was there one time when the corn snow was so creamy right into the night and when they smoothed it all out for the night session it was seriously some of the nicest corn snow skiing i ever had felt, ANYWHERE. good snow underfoot is good skiing no matter where ya find it. even better when it's somewhere like a wawa

Haha yeah, it's kinda fun to line up for the freshly groomed 10th and race down like it's the first run of a pow day. Jongtastic, I know, but it's skiing. Beats sitting home watching football (NTTAWWT).

entry is easy...just look for the no trespassing signs and drop in i believe its to keep hunters out.

the main trails are very established and pretty buff from the air base days, so i don't think tires are an issue. the new stuff is what i'd have to show you. anytime.

On a mission to check out a "new" slide in the Whites this weekend. Hoping it's as accessible as we think. First time I've seen this in the forecast:

    for somewhere other than MTW.

    Irene ravine?

Hot as shit on the ride today! damn. Need to work out a couple spots where flow is an issue. It always looks like a bigger area on foot and it tightens up quick when ur rollin it.

Certainly was a low air pressure kind of day.

good luck wit the slide adventure rob. as soon as the rock see's 17-20" of accumulated new with no melt and wicked wnw'erlies, both left and right gully could be t2b. will it be oct, nov, dec? love when they come in early.

Sad I won't be able to make it to any Magic work days, as the Mrs. is due to evict my son any day now. Stoked for the upcoming season though.

Buttah, I'm around Ludlow on weekends when I can escape from New York... if you want to slam brews or slay gnar. Just sayin'.

We got greedy and went looking for untracked, and found some older, untracked plate glass instead. Never appreciated rocker more than on that run. We did have a few good turns:

    And saw some interesting foliage:

And a snow shark feeding frenzy:
