    Thoughts on firewire sweet potato?

Think'n about getting the 6' sweet potato. I'm 6'3" 210 and I surf mostly point breaks around Rhode Island. Learned on a 7'10 wrv fun shape, then went to a 6'10 rusty piranha fish. I like the rusty but find it works better in hollower/faster beach breaks. The sweet potato seems like it would work better in the mushier 2-4 ft stuff. Any experience with it? Thanks.

You may want to try one that is 2" to 4" shorter if you like the piranha. There's an awful lot of foam packed in a 6'er.

I haven't tried the sweet potato but have surfed a baked potato for a couple sessions and it was a blast in waist to chest high junk.

Why not work with a local shaper? There used to be a few in RI back when I was there (20 yrs ago...??) Anyway, there know your waves, and you may even be able to get some water time with one. And you get a hand crafted board, not dome factory pop out.

I had a 6-0 when they first released them. It's a really fun shape, changes your surfing. You can paddle it into a ripple. I have a good 25-30 pounds on you, and I would probably buy a 5-6 or 5-8 right now. That said, I would not recommend buying unless you are still learning how to turn and catch waves. If you're already moving down the line, get someone near you to shape a mini Simmons, or a high performance groveler. Better performance, more versatility, and you can get it tailored to your surfing style.
