Here's a way to never hit a bad shot again .

    Take two weeks off .

    Then quit .
    I kid , I kid.
Which ever tour player you like , get some vid of that player and try to copy what he does .
Like BCNC says set up , including grip can fix a lot of ills .

I'm watching the replay of the 09 British , fuck Watson should have won .
    Now there's a swing to copy .

Overland is not Donald Ross FYI, I like the guys designs so much, I keep up on that stuff.

Wellshire, Lakewood CC, and 18 holes at the Broadmoor are the only known Don the Ross courses in Colorado.

The Broadmoor uses Donald's 9 for one 18, and another of his 9 for anther. In the winter, you can play the original Donald Ross 18.

City Park and Overland, they were speculated to be his designs, but no proof exists. Funny thing is, I believe he never has even stepped food in Colorado the story goes, he made drawings, and had his assistant do the work.

Im my opinion, you can tell that he has not been to the Boradmoor property. The slopes and angles on the green would have been far different. The mountain influences that area so much, it is actually unusual and highly noteworthy.

Some simple setup changes can improve your swing. Try taking some face on video next time.
Nice, thanks for the tips. And yeah this is the first video i have ever taken of myself swinging a golf club and the first thing i noticed was my hunch back steeze.

me too... that sucked to watch again, almost hurt worse the 2nd time around. That putt to win on 18 was brutal, never had a chance!

Hot damn! Can I touch you?

I meant Wellshire. Had the page for Overland opened up in a different box while I was posting that and must have subconsciously typed it.

I think there's a couple spots open if anyone wants to hop on.

Nice tempo. Your grip looks weak and in your hands instead of your fingers. Your miss is a slice? You should be able to break 100 with that swing. Practice your chipping and avoid 7's to score. Re-tie your shoes in a double knot and wear your hat backwards

I was watching that last night. After he hit it long on 18, I had to turn it off. Couldn't watch the rest again. Two pure shots on 18.

Thanks, appreciate the advice. You are correct in that my miss is a slice (or just to the right in general) but with the occasional snap hook thrown in for good measure especially lately. You're also correct that I card a lot of 7s...

Look up the proper grip and practice it by keeping a club around and grabbing it every hour or so until it feels natural.

Let me help you score better. Took a league partner down 8-10 strokes for 9 with this over a season.

-Before every shot say "Bogies are my friend"
-On the tee say "Anywhere in the fairway is good."
-Approach shot(s) " Anywhere near the green works"
Chips "The green is huge, just get it on so I can putt"
-Long putts - aim for a 3 foot circle

-Never try to follow a poor shot with a great one.
-When your in jail, get out of jail.

Oh, and laugh out loud after every really bad shot.

Keep the ball as low as you can coming onto greens until you really dial in the wedges. Your worst putt even a few feet off of the green will be better than your best chip. If you can't putt, try a 7 iron bump 'n run. Or a hybrid.

This is great advice for improving your score. I tell people a variation of this all the time.

Off the tee - just get it out there so you have a shot at the green.
Next shot, get it somewhere around the green so you can definitely chip on if you miss it.
When chipping, don't fuck around. If you short side yourself and maybe have to clear a bunker, take your medicine and make sure you get the damn thing on the green and don't get too cute with it. Always give yourself a par putt and you'll start breaking 90 in no time.

Indeed. Was just looking for opinions from guys who've been lucky enough to play both designers.

You guys think Fossil Trace would be a decent place to take someone from the east coast? I hear some people think it's pretty mickey mousey but is a decent taste of mountain golf without the $$$. <---True?

We used to play golf a couple times a week back east so I really want to show him what Colorado golf is all about. Any of you guys played Heritage at Westmoor? Thoughts? I feel like Riverdale Dunes is a must visit but we've played Sawgrass Stadium a couple times so should I skip Dunes? My buddy says he doesn't give a shit but I know he want's to get a couple quality rounds in while he's out so I want to make sure I do it right and take him to some unique courses. Common Ground is on the short list too.

yep... right near the house MF... great course and fun to play. not really a walkable course as green to tee is some distance. open links style play but can get in trouble quick in the tall grass. great views but watch out if windy.... tough to keep in on the fairway. Greens are usually in great shape but have not played there since April.

    when you heading out?

He's flying out late on August 16th so we'll most likely play somewhere in the morning on Friday the 17th before hitting up the Rockies game that evening. We'll also be playing somewhere Saturday midday then checking out the 36 hole championship at Cherry Hills Sunday. We might try to sneak nine in somewhere before he flies out Sunday night/Monday morning.

Yes, Fossil Trace is a good call. I enjoyed playing there when I came out to CO.

On that note, I may be heading out for a quick golf trip sometime in August. I've played Arrowhead before but kind of want to again, this time when it's not raining. Any other suggestions around the general Denver area?

the cruelest bounce I've seen (on TV) in my lifetime... that ball should've been no more than 15' past, if not closer.

Thanks. There are other people that would be better to chime in but I can't get enough of Buffalo Run. Immaculate shape and the most aesthetically pleasing course I've played this season; great design. I was disappointed in Colorado National because the greens were shit but I really dug the layout. City Park is a smaller track but the views of Denver and Evans/Bierstadt are fucking sweet and it wasn't it bad shape either; heart of Denver pretty much. Huge fan of Riverdale Dunes as well. Classic Pete Dye. Also, there's a couple City of Westminster courses, Heritage at Westmoor and Legacy Ridge, that I always hear good things about but, for some reason, haven't gotten out to them yet even though I'm five-10 minutes from both. They usually have great specials that include cart, range balls, and a logo hat for like $45 and, from what I understand, aren't bad tracks whatsoever.

If you end up heading out and need a place to stay hit me up.

3.5 hours of practice today. half 6 iron, half pitching and putting. i'm finally starting to slow down and get a decent rhythm and get my weight transfered to my front leg on the follow through. it feels pretty good. i'm going to buy the ipad golf swing app and record next time out.

it's amazing that the course is basically empty in the afternoon. i had the driving range, the putting green and the pitching green totally to myself. it's been tempting to play more than practice, but i keep telling myself that i need to practice more than play right now and it will pay off later. i try to get there early enough so i can practice for 3-4 hours and then play 2 or 3 adjacent holes but it doesn't always work out that way.

Been playing a little golf, yo. Had a really bad night at the range the other day. I usually play in Nike Free running shoes but that night was wearing some vibram soled hiking shoes. Was hitting it like shit. Moved the ball back in my stance and that seemed to fix it. Might get out this weekend.
