Hey Spook, I came in with my info to try and get this back on track.

You are being an over-posting douche.

In other news I discovered the Swingplane App, for $2.99 I got to see my swing for the first time at age 47. Good thing I have a strong constitution!
How my vicious yank straight down at the top of the swing can produce a draw, well I have no idea.

Maybe I will figure out how to post the video with the lines.

Shiiiiiit, 4matic, if you don't unload them in the next few weeks, I'll give you $200 shipped (just paid for surgery; gotta wait for student loans).

    That's a fucking killer deal.

I own both a Ping Anser (2001 edition) and a Scotty Cameron Newport 2. They're pretty similar looking, but the feedback and distance control is significantly improved (for me) with the Cameron. It's not even close.

The difference is in your wallet and between your ears IMO.

Playing here tonight. Oldest course in the country still in operation. They even have a elevated tee that requires a shot over water.

Scotty now does a little more with weighting than older Ping's in general. The brass ones Ping used to cast were great for their time. Now with moveable weight ports (in all the new Scotty Cameron's), you can adjust length, then lie angle, then fix the swing weight to suit. Even if you play stock, you can add or remove weight as you see fit. All those different milling and threading work adds up fast, margin is small on putters.

Worth the money IMO, even though I play a 10 year old Scotty cut down and too lightweight and made 4 birdies 3 were outside 10 feet yesterday. QUality of the putting surface can be everything matched with different putters.

More golf today in the Colorado dry heat, glad some fires are almost out.

Nope. I bought the Cameron after borrowing a friend's for a few rounds and found my distance control was much better. So I wasn't invested in it at the time (i.e. when you spend a lot of money on a club you want to like it). Then I bought one and haven't questioned the move since. They give more feedback.

I agree with both you and wooley...my two cents.

I was using a ping anser for years...over time, I didn't know it, but the sweetspot had deadened (probably from nicks/dents, etc). I started hitting other putters and felt an immediate difference at impact. I went with an odyssey 2-ball, and love it (just shortened it and threw on the SuperStroke Fatso - TR to come). So, equipment definitely matters, to a point.

Now, the flipside (wooley's argument)...if you are a ~10+ handicap, that likely means your stroke isn't grooved and you have consistency issues around tempo, face angle at impact, etc. If you are a 10+, the putter may help, but stroke consistency is the big issue (the one I have). I know scratch guys and former tour guys that literally practice their putting stroke for 1-2 hours PER DAY...doing drills against walls, etc, just to create insane muscle memory.

I am never going to be that guy. But, if you are between 30 and 36 putts per round, a putter probably won't be a meaningful change compared to practicing your stroke.

By the way, the Fatso grip is hilarious, hasn't improved my putting to date (hasn't hurt either), and is a nice conversation piece - and getting it in and out of the bag isn't a big deal.

Got out yesterday to hit some balls. 40 minutes and one mountain pass later, you are at the closest
    public range to Jackson.

Hit a bucket, putted for about 1/2 an hour, and chipped and pitched for over an hour.

Beautiful day and no one there.

Can someone tell me how to post video? I uploaded it to TGR but cant figure out how to get it over to a post.

Thanks for the info about the Scotty's, I did notice the weight ports after doing some research. I switched 2 years
ago to an Odyssey, a smaller version of the #7 called the white hot xg hawk, the insert in the face is very "hot" and
it takes much less effort to get the ball going. 3-4 footers I barely even have to take the club back, way less margin
    for yipping.

I played a lot in the 90's, at least 1-2 rounds of 18 a week and 2 days at the range, now I play about 5 times a year,
and given the lack of public facilities here, I probably only get to practice 2-3 times a year. Still enjoy it and I get to play
some nice courses here as the guest of employees.

Interesting stat on PGA Tour putting.

Tour players make 41.3% of their 10 foot putts.
Tour players make 29.9% of 11-15 foot putts.

This was discussed in a Golf Digest magazine with me on the cover.

Should know how to imbed, but am not that smart.

You hit the Reserve? Teton Springs had [has?] a pretty great practice deal, $30 for all day on their sweet 9 hole par 3 plus the range. Range balls aren't distance reduced, and they have a diverse practice facility...

    WHO'S FORE-PLAYING GOLF?

OK. New topic. Who has gotten laid on the golf course. Fairways and greens count double. It's all about scoring on the course. I'm in for a two. Twice.

Pasatiempo in Santa Cruz on the green-

Graeagle Meadows, Graegle CA- on the fairway

I am lying three- oops four.

Tye, thanks for the Springs recommendation, I will have to try that.

In any case, swingplane app has solved my greatest flaw, cupped wrist, over the top, then back on plane super loop.

Spent the last 2 hours in my warehouse hitting plastic balls off carpet and filming, l am now literally on plane all the time, and I know its indoors with plastic balls, but once I dialed it after an hour, the swing is really repeatable, also figured out how to keep from raising up a little in the backswing. Can't wait to try it out on the range.
The only lesson I ever had was grip and address when I was 15. Swingplane is the best 2 bucks I have ever spent.

Golf trip to Michigan next week. 10 rounds in 6 days. I'll post pictures and reports. Haven't played in a few days to try and clear a knot in my back.

^That sounds pretty sweet. I've already got the go ahead to plan a golf trip next early summer. I have no clue where to go; there's so many sick choices.

I love me some Michigan golf. I can't recommend thousand oaks highly enough, then Arcadia bluffs, then tullymore.

Edit: If you are playing late in the afternoon/ early evening, stay out of the shade near the trees. It's worth it to play away from them strategically. Either that or spray yourself with raid... off! won't do anything to their state bird.

Nice to see Michelle Wie in contention. Good for the game. Great quote:

The temperature may have cooled slightly, but Michelle Wie's game heated up as the 22-year-old fan favorite blistered Blackwolf Run to the tune of a 6-under 66 and a share of second place in Friday's second round of the U.S. Women's Open.
