Just got back from Stoney Creek Golf Course. It's a little excutive nine hole that's a par 30. Ended up there because Hyland was fuckin' packed and had a couple fivesomes sneak out. Shot a 35 and am very please with how I struck the ball, especially around the green.

^ I know it is an illusion from the slight angle of the camera, but it looks like you are teeing off on that rock!
... jfost is really ignorant, he often just needs simple facts laid out for him...

Ok, going out on a moderately drunken limb here.

There may be 1 or 2 courses in WA that have better greens than Avalon. Immaculate. Playable, affordable, risk-reward opportunities. Took some pics but they dont really do much justice.

are you moderately drunk because you were playing and drinking? i don't think i could do it, but i'm guessing you've been playing a lot longer so your muscle memory is already well-established. i don't drink when i'm snowboarding either. athletics and alcohol just don't mix for me.

on a related note, i was driving to the club this morning and saw a rough looking character on the way looking for a ride. when i drove by i did a double take and it was my instructor. looked like he had a little too much fun last night.

I don't usually over-do it on the course, and my comments were fueled more by an apres round. A couple on the back nine usually loosen me up for some decent swings. It's a fine line and I appreciated the course enough today to not cross it until I hit the 19th green.

Spook, you of all people might benefit from a beer on the course. Unlike other sports, golf is about relaxation, rhythm and execution. It is no secret that pot and beta blockers have been used on the lower tours, if not the PGA.

And if you have a slower swing and can handle reg flex shafts, you can get a set of Adams 4hybrid, 5-SW brand new on ROck Bottom Golf for $130 for another couple of hours, they will add a free mallet style putter too.

haha. thanks for the advice. my swing is slowing down considerably and i'm finding a rhythm now. i can lose it from shot to shot, but the past 3 days have been as consistent as i've ever been, which is only reinforcing what i'm learning. i started playing two years ago but was honestly completely surprised about how many times i got offered a toke. at this point in my learning process i need to be clearheaded, which isn't to say that i don't enjoy having my betas blocked.

thanks for the tip on the clubs.

played last night in the dark on the last 2 holes. moon was very bright. still managed to bogey the 18th. if i can get over caring about losing a ball or two, i really like playing in the dark and trying to feel the swing and the direction of the ball and then go find it.

edit: my short game strokes are behind my irons in terms of rhythm. i still have a tendency to putt and chip way too hard, but it's getting better day by day. fortunately, i enjoy practicing. and i might actually get to stay here longer than anticipated.

The state golf association around here banned drinking during the tournaments , mainly because a couple of guys would drink a 12 pack during their round , and win the tournament .
Then the fucking teetotalers would piss and moan about it .

Was going to play today but it was incredibly hot here. Going to try on the 4th. One good tip I picked up from revolutiongolf.com is to be sure and rotate your torso if you're shanking it. Fixed my problem.

i have noticed in the past when I have a few beers I play better.

It was 101 offically here and the wife and I got out. Does it ever get too cold for you to go skiing? Man up, pussy.

The last 12 months have been like the year of weather from hell. FKNA, this winter better give me a boner.

I stopped drinking heavily during rounds the last few weeks and have seen my consistency skyrocket. I still don't mind a couple during a round but now I nurse the fuck out of anything I drink.

That said, I usually bring a couple bowls out there so to each there own.

4 some today at Coal Creek filled up.

Played Napa Valley Country Club last Friday - it's private so it was the first time I've ever played there (thanks to a buddy who won a silent auction at a charity event). 4 birdies, 3 double bogies and a 77 that probably should have been more like a 73 or 74 (one too many beers).

#12 was awesome - you're teeing off from even higher up than it looks like... dead into the wind.

No beverage cart at all. If I paid for a membership at a private club, I'd be fairly annoyed by this.

I usually bring my own too since those $5 beers can add up, and we did that day, but it's nice to at least have the option.

true, but they're not usually selling what i'm looking for anyway.

anybody ever played night golf with the glow balls? a course nearby where i live in oregon had a tourney recently, but i've never been and never actually seen how well it works.

I went up to Vol. Park in highschool to play "night golf" with one of those balls where you insert the little glow stick. I think it was an early version of what's available today... anyway, I planned to hit it from near the wading pool up to the bathrooms with my 64 deg wedge and I promptly shanked it into the adjacent cemetary (where bruce&brandon lee are buried)... last I saw, it was a yellow streak of light headed away on a rope at about a 45deg angle, oh well. Haven't tried it since.

trying to change our return flights to stay here for another 3 weeks, but everything but first class is sold out. in order to do so, we'd have to pay a $250 per ticket penalty AND the difference between coach and first class. looks like my golf vacation is coming to an end shortly.
