Don't know if this really belongs here, but its pretty cool.

I've never had a hole in one but I've had an albatross which I wouldn't trade for a hole in one unless it was on a par 4.

Nutted my old callaway steelhead+ 5 wood from 238 on a 535 yarder
I wear crocs for the style, not the comfort.

I've still never had a hole in one. THREE separate times I've had the ball come to rest hanging on the edge of the cup, where a single dimple more of rotation and it would have gone in. One of those times it was during a sponsored tourney and I would have won a BMW, so that really sucked.

I have made long eagle shots from the fairway on par 4's though - one from about 210 yards out with a 3-iron - that was pretty enjoyable but just not the same.

    I've made 1 , 5 iron 185 yds flew in the hole .
The funny part is I had chipped in the hole before , the 16th then made 1 one seventeen .
One of the guys were playing comes over to me and tells me I might want let the guy I'm playing win the 18th , since he is the general council for the teamsters union .

Amended plans for weekend now include Gold Mountain but Trophy Lake was scratched to try out Avalon. Anyone played Avalon in Burlington?

i saw this and almost posted it yesterday but i couldn't decide if i thought it was cool or stupid.

an albatross is rarer than a hole in one isn't it?

practice helps. i had 2 pars and a bogey on the front nine today. also had a couple blow up holes, which are really easy on this course because out of bounds and lost are so easy. back nine i started to wear out -- i've been swimming a mile a day and trying to get into shape, but tramping around in the heat and the sun that just crushes me makes 18 still a challenge.

anyway, i'm playing or practicing every day and can definitely feel significant improvement. the guy i'm taking lessons from suggested i ask how much it would cost to buy the clubs i'm using and take them home, but i'm guessing they won't be cheap enough, plus $70 to fly them home, plus i have no safe way to package them for an airplane, plus, since they're rentals, they've probably been used hundreds of times.

so i'm going to make note of everything about them and hopefully i can find something comparable when i get home that isn't horribly expensive. they are definitely better than what i have.

just take a pic of the set and all us gear heads can sort it out...

it IS going to be tough after all that practice to get a new set. For me at least, it is kind of like trying to use someone else's baseball mitt... it just isn't what you're used to...

yeah, but i think it may be even harder to go back to the super flexy cheap shit i have at home after playing with a real name brand with steel shafts.

that's what I mean, I simply do not like even hitting my old set at the range now. You WILL buy new clubs, it is part of the game-dustry!

Spook, I wouldn't even pick your other ones up when you get home. It may destroy all that muscle memory you stored up and you will be compensating for deficiencies that may not really exist. Find something similar ASAP upon return and use that.

these (above) are the clubs i'm using. putter has a nice fat grip, driver head is twice as big as my crappy one, starting to get more confident with the hybrid, which i've never used -- just realized i don't know what kind of hybrid it is -- 15* anyway.

you're losing yards with that R5 - you can get a R9 for cheap or one of the burner superfasts for even cheaper. (prices on ebay for r5's indicate its desirability IMHO)

which Cobra's? Current line or a few years old like the driver - IMHO irons havent changed as much as woods in recent years.

Putter = whatever floats your boat. I've resisted a fat grip for myself since my bad miss is a push while putting, (so I try to encourage more right hand to close the toe) but maybe taking the hands out alltogether would be nice?!?

i'm guessing that the irons are a couple years old, too. they're in good shape, but even at a club like this one, it's probably prohibitively expensive to import the best stuff for rentals. i'll ask the guy who rented them to me, but i'm not sure he'll know either. the grips are in good shape as well.

as for the putter grip, it's the first time i've used a fatter one -- it's not huge like the ones i see on tv, but it's definitely bigger than mine. plus the putter itself feels significantly heavier than mine at home and i like the extra weight. it seems to make it easier to slow my stroke down.

Got out to Lake Arbor this afternoon. Hit some great shots and even holed a few decent putts to shoot a 45-43-88. It's not the most exciting course in the world but it's fun nonetheless.

Only one shot of the course because it isn't very photogenic. Has nice flora though.

You gota learn to hit that driver .
Next time before you play go to the range and hit the driver of the ground with a 3/4 swing .
Then tee it up on the course and swing easy .

You can buy a real nice iron set for $70-$100 on eBay. Trust me on that one. I have some Cobra FP irons in regular flex steel with gap wedge if you're interested.

I agree. I'm not playing again without getting work in with it. Monday is my next chance to practice and I'll be taking full advantage of it.
