I want to get out somewhere new next Monday or Tuesday but have to keep it cheap so was thinking of a Denver city course. Maybe Willis Case.

    Anyone down?

I'd be down for CP. Make a tee time and let me know when we're playing. I'm good anytime early next week.

So I posted this TR on a different forum and a couple dickbags are talking about how they have a "no house" rule where they won't play any course where homes or condos are along the holes.

Tell me this isn't something most golfers do. That would eliminate some pretty sick courses.

I've run into this a couple times. Or at least where someone says, specifically about Indian Peaks, "Man, when I pulled up to this course surrounded by houses I thought it wasn't going to be any good, but that place is awesome!"
The reasoning behind this is that often times courses that are built as a part of a housing development are frequently there JUST to raise the value of the homes surrounding it, and the design of the course is an afterthought. However, many courses that start this way end up getting remodeled, redone, or actually are good courses in the first place. But this is where the hesitation to play these courses comes from.
"One season per year, the gods open the skies, and releases a white, fluffy, pillow on top of the most forbidding mountain landscapes, allowing people to travel over them with ease and relative abandonment of concern for safety. It's incredible."

This is the reasoning, with courses in a housing development often the best land for the course is taken up by the housing, so they throw the course on whatever land is unsuitable for housing. And then there is the idea that when you are surrounded by houses the setting becomes less majestic. The perfect example of this is Murphy Creek, the front nine has no houses on it and I find it to be much more visually appealing than the second nine which is pretty much completely surrounded by houses on most holes. It doesn't stop me from playing there, Murphy Creek and CommonGround are where I play 95% of the time in Denver, but I do think it takes the course down a notch or so.

speaking of steep drop-offs, this is the view from the tee box at 15. roughly 200 yards to clear the enormous ravine, which you can't really appreciate in this picture

i left my driver in the bag for all but two tee shots because i haven't practiced with it and have little confidence in it. i sliced this tee shot and cleared the ravine by a yard. one of the caddies i met at the scramble last week said they send caddies down into the ravine to recover balls.

Wow Spook, best golf TR yet. Ecuador is badass. I have some old friends in Nicaragua.

    Great tree shots too.

the tree is dead center in the middle of the fairway, with water to the left and out of bounds to the right.

    Beautiful, Spook. Great TR.

Wife and I are getting out to Hyland today. Trying to nudge her into playing Blue instead of South. She's hitting the ball so well I feel safe bringing her on a weekend round now but she gets how fucking pissed people get waiting for slow players and is still scared to play a big boy course on a Sat or Sun.

Typically, although we'll need pics to determine if that's the case here.
