looks fkn sick to me..I had a slight nerdgasm when I saw it although trailers do tend to do that eh? I reckon he'll do a good job on it.

Not sure about blonde babe female leads though, Sigourney Weaver was a great cast for a tough chick with some "fuck you!" attitude when required.

Whut? Even the NYT thinks the movie is pretty damn good. They're not big fans of the script in the 2nd half of the film, mainly because it's supposedly a set-up for a sequel. I'm alright with that.

I can't wait to see it.

super awesome. the IMAX 3D was like ambrosia for the eyes. i liked everything about the movie. i can't wait for the sequel.

I enjoyed it - incredible visuals, some spooky/scary stuff and one or two interesting ideas thrown in. some of the evil corporation stuff was a bit hammy though

It was much better than I expected. Saw it in regular 3-D, which really didn't add much to the mix (i.e. it would have been just as visually stunning in 2-D imho).

While certainly not one of Scott's best films, the visuals were pretty sweet (obvious nods to Kubrick's 2001 were everywhere) and the story was okay. The use of landscape was amazing, too.

My only complaint was with the score: forgettable, way too "heroic" (parts of it sounded as if it were cobbled together from the Superman score from the '70s with a bit of Star Wars Ep IV thrown in). Having a more ominous and claustrophobic score would have helped the film a lot.

That said, I'd recommend seeing it. There's some interesting stuff going on mixed in with the basic, predictable stuff. I found myself jumping a few times and on the edge of my seat at other times, so I give it a thumbs up in the end.

The story was a little weak, could have been beefed up, and some parts didn't really fit in the story Feels like a couple rewrites added to some disjointed feelings. Otherwise, a solid effort. Charlize Theron is pretty much the world's most beautiful woman.

Fuck, I thought it was the best of the Alien movies yet. Sacrilege I know, but all things considered I thought it was great.

Certainly a worthy follow-on to the first two films. I'm not even considering the other four abortions of movies that have been made.

The only place I thought the plot came undone was in the actions of some of the crew. Yeah, there's a "secret" agenda, but why in the hell would the doc be purposely infected with the Alien DNA? That served no purpose, and in many ways, jeopardized the ability of the ship to return to earth once the "secret" agenda was fulfilled. The real programmer of David would not have wanted that, and why would David? The script needed to be streamlined a bit to keep the "whaaaa?" loose ends out.

That said, the scene where Shaw does her own surgery is tightly done and amazing. A real homage to the original toughness of Ripley and having her running around in her undies also played to the original movies. Cool. Noomi Rapace was in great shape! I've always had a bit of thing for her...

Fassbender played David amazing well. I had wondered about some of the casting, but it was well done. Theron was a great combination of stunning and in control.

The scenes were amazing. The opening DNA-spreading sequence was awesome. Big screen incredible.

Um, of course the infection served purpose. Did you not see all the previous Alien movies? Weyland Corp's mission was always to get the Alien DNA back to Earth. C'mon now! Plus David needed to see how a human would react so that Weyland himself would know if infecting one with the DNA would be a cure for death or not (he, Weyland, talks about why he was faking his death and stowed away on the ship in the final act). Again, C'mon!

Ah, but Weyland did know about the DNA...perhaps you forgot the scene where David is speaking to "somebody" behind closed doors? That scene and later ones set up the fact that Weyland was continuously in the loop during the whole trip, thus he knew about each and every discovery as seen by David, his intermediary. I would go even further to say that somebody like Weyland would have calculated for every conceivable possibility (i.e. discovery alien DNA that could have led to humankind's creation, etc), why else would he have funded a 3 trillion dollar interstellar trip?

I loved the style of the cinematography/special effects and the 3D was well blended, not over the top. There were a few plot issues that didn't really mesh for me - how they determined the engineer's motive to go back to earth and destroy the humans. I also found the crew briefing at the beginning out of place. you'd have thought that would have been done on earth.

Weyland funded the 3 trillion dollar trip because what does he have to lose? He's going to die soon enough anyways, has assloads of money. So he spends it and comes up short...at least he has a cool trip to enjoy.

johngenx, remember David had an ability to tap into the brains of the crew in stasis. In the case of Weyland, before we knew definitively that he was aboard (alluded to earlier with the fancy digs in the lifeboat and the surgical unit), David was reporting back to him following the initial expedition, stating that they hadn't found any alive Engineers. Weyland told him to 'try harder', so that's why he knowingly infected Holloway. Let's see what this stuff does...maybe it can replace the Engineers.

I felt like it was pretty poorly executed. The plot really don't move all that well, the characters lacked any staying power, I was totally fine with all of them dyeing. The plot devices all seemed kind of cheap. The cinematography was unfulfilling.

Most importantly no Charlize Theron tits. (what's with the really ambiguous boring death too)

It was trying to be sublime but it just got stuck at hokey and empty.

The CG were pretty well done.
