skiing steamboat sun-wed hoping for the best, although i think the best may be hunting pow in the trees, and downing brews on a sunny deck.

The beav skied great today although as montanaskier pointed out, there were alot of ppl, particularly for a weekday. Great snow though, soft and light and no crusty bottoms. A fun day on grouse and in the trees by yarrow fer sure

Great day at Vail, found mid-boot to knee deep in the woods in Blue Sky. Did a lap in Mongolia Bowl, dumping snow and white out conditions. Never really snowed too heavily out in BSB

Pretty amazing day out there. Found some new lines I want to string together. DEEP deep snow. Ohhhh so good. Definitely inside the ping pong ball getting to the last lap.

Look at the GFS precip, it's pretty much only accurate to maybe a week out, the model runs will change with each 6 hour iteration.

The precip forecast changed a lot from yesterday to today... so little true accuracy in that forecast.

The Beav was fun today...lapped Stone Creek most of the morning since its nice and deep in there, then found plenty of untracked powder in the trees all over Grouse. A huge squall came in around 2, dumped hard and scared all the touristas away which made for some nice quiet whiteout storm riding.

Best day yet at the beav today. Hiked until I couldn't huck anymore. Busy for a Friday but stone creek early was a great idea. I bet EV was really good today. Especially if Lindahl didn't drop any avys on anyone during a gaypro video shoot.

Hahaha. None yesterday. We'll see what today brings. Glad to hear Stone Creek was good. Seriously considered heading over there for some. Haven't been there all year, despite how much I like the terrain.

NOAA says this too for 81657, so next week might be saved...

Crested Butte was $$$ this weekend. Most of the pow from the 2 feet this week was tracked but the wind blew pretty good on Sat and buffed the snow out. All the steeps that are open skied really well.

Late, but shit is now baked. Avoid anything the sun can reach, and the exits are icy or mank, depending on what time. Still really good skiing, but the outs basically sucked in the afternoon. Some new snow needs to fill in the tracks and bring the exits back to life.

Confirm those results from today. Skied Water-tower today and it was good in the deep trees where the sun doesn't shine. Only took one lap due to the clusterfuck that EV was today. Insane number of people with stupid tracks all over Tweeners and some through Old Man's. It really warmed up today and baked everything.

    went to breck today.

it was puking at the tunnel this morning when I drove through around 7:30. puking. got to peak 8 at about 8:15. snowed for a good hour. dropped maybe 2 or 3 inches. then the sun came out and the day was beautiful. Everything above treeline was perfectly buffed out. you could rip almost anything above treeline. I cant ever remember being able to straightline horseshoe and contest bowl before. Breck is skiing REALLY well right now, and the wind today seemed to prevent any sort of baking.

good fun. also took 285 home and avoided I-70 shitshow. heard it took 4 plus hours.

    Forecast for Crested Butte

Tuesday: Areas of blowing dust after 11am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 46. Breezy, with a southwest wind between 10 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph.

seriously? this is all we need right now, a nice dust layer to accelerate the melt, wtf

Could be some meaningful snow for the southern San Juans out of this cut off low on Wednesday, but otherwise just some scattered accumulations. Things look spring-like through mid month, then hoping for a reversal for the second half of March into April.

Spring is the favored time for blowing dust, so if this happens don't be surprised. That said, hoping that the cut-off low goes far enough south to relax our winds up here AND put down some snow/rain over southern UT and parts of AZ/NM to lessen the possibility that the top soil is dry and blows into Colorado.

Get ready to make apres ski a much more important part of the day...at least for the next week or two. Though this group probably already emphasizes apres well enough...

Seems like a good time to tune the bikes and boards. I just bought an old used van to restore. Should keep my mind off the snow for a bit.

Over three days we absolutely crushed Loveland Pass by shuttling the switchbacks. Some of the best snow I've been in this year. There must have been a 100 people skiing the boned out main summit run, but we had the trees all to ourselves for powder harvesting activities. I think I found my happy place. The snow is probably still good on the Loveland Side. The A-basin side was getting roasted Sunday.

poked around east vail for the first time this season.

dug a pit. I think the warm temps the past few days have helped stabilize our snowpack a bit. Things appear to be bonding somewhat.......... however i was able to get a lower layer to fail in my pit, although it took considerable effort.

with that said, we made the decision to ski a more conservative line than I would have liked.

    probably the right choice.

and dust? plus a dry march outlook? ski season could be coming to a close very early this year.

bring on the hiking, biking, rafting, kayaking, flyfishing, etc.

also not sure if it was 2 mags who stopped to check out the pit we had dug, but sure was nice to see other people out at east vail who at least have some sort of idea what the fuck they are doing.
