I had the same thought driving through there about 18 months ago. It would need to be a big snow year with a really stable snow pack. Maybe it could be done late season?

felt good at the time but alas, that is the last I'll be seeing of the mountains again for awhile. This has been quite a rollercoaster, but I think I am beggining to learn how to ride it. Can't wait to get out again, you can be sure I'm motivated.

Some Big Sky stoke from today. Busiest I've ever seen the mountain, but as usual the people spread out and there was a bunch of fresh snow piled up from the last couple days mixed in with a healthy helping of rocks. Skied Pinnacles, a couple Bowl laps, the Gullies (anyone who was in the tram line and saw my friend tomahawk through 3rd, he's fine...) and Highway up on Challenger. Should still be some leftovers for tomorrow, and hopefully less people.

Scotty Savage is a good buddy and deserves more attention for his work in avalanche education.

I left Big Sky and moved over to MLB in 2001/02 so not sure what your point is (if you really ever had one).

However if you are trying to demonstrate how much Big Sky and Moonlight and the Y/C have on our plates when it comes to hazard mitigation you have succeeded.

All 3 areas do a damn good job dealing with complex terrain and a difficult snowpack.

This is neither here nor there, but I wear a transceiver at all times when skiing off Lone Peak these days. I was talking to a volunteer patroller one day and he suggested it and I thought that's a damn good idea. As he said, What are you trying to do, save batteries?

O.K. bumping this thread for the folks who are surely going to be getting out and after it.

Yesterday and last night we picked up deceptively small amounts of snow down south in BS. 3-5-7" at most.

However the winds have been just about right to load the shit out of things and the temps have been steadily rising from very chilly on Monday to downright balmy today. We now have an upside down new snowpack on top of the garbage that has been with us all season but til now has lacked the load needed to wake up.

Saw lots of 2'+ deep pockets yesterday, probably much deeper this a.m.

Watch your ass and be careful, especially if heading to Lone Lake or other easily accessible areas off the tram or from Beehive.

Please, no more "vibes" threads.

Most of ON3P's 12/13 demo fleet will be at Big Sky tomorrow (sorry, not bridger this time around) as our guys roll through Montana on their way to Powder Week.

Here is the details they left me....
"We will be at the pay parking lot by the summit hotel at 8am to get people out on skis, ski until lunch, meet at 1230 PM to swap out skis and ski until 4 PM.

We will need anyone demoing skis to fill out a liability release form and if you are under 18 your parents need to sign it. Email kip@on3pskis.com if you need to have your parents sign ahead of time."

Missed out on the pow at Bridger today, but had a fun day at the really Big Sky. An A-Z, 3 trams, (1/2 hour wait each time- seems like it's a little more crowded there these days;granted it was a weekend day) a few Dakotas and several high-speed Andesite runs. Also spotted a very funny "I'll Go Back To Bridger When You Go Back To Michigan" sticker retort in the ongoing "rivalry". I'm a Bridger guy, but feel lucky to have a high quality alternative option and change of pace nearby. Lone Peak is a most impressive massif and it sure is fun to ski at a different area from time to time. Sure is nice to have it feel like full on ski season finally!

That's pretty funny. I haven't seen that sticker before. Admittedly, I used to get caught up in the whole Big Sky-Bridger rivalry. Now, I don't get it. Both hills have their drawbacks. But you're right on; we all need to consider ourselves exceptionally lucky to have three world class areas within 45 miles.

Saw that as well...somewhere on the Triple I think? Coverage has really improved up there immensely and it was nice to be able to ski most of the Peak without worrying about hitting a rock field on the traverses and tomahawking to my death. Snow was great up there too. Skied 2 trams with a pretty short (5 cabins or so?) wait. One unfortunate dude lost his ski up near the top of one of the A-Zs and he did a very slow and miserable looking sideslip down the untracked chute. Got a lot of laughs out of the tram line. Great to finally have some snow up there.

Just got a marketing email from Big Sky - I guess they're doing Disneyland-style 'fast passes' for the tram where you can now reserve a walk-on tram at a certain specified time slot. Have they been doing this before? Surely lots of 'otans will be jumping all over this for the ride up and back down...

Dunno what they mean by "1/3rd of tram capacity. Does that mean they're gonna let 5 people per cabin go up with this system? However, I don't see why the locals will get mad. They'll be free and available first come first serve at the ticket windows with a season pass or day ticket...so the minnesotans who roll out of bed around 10am after a night of drinking at Whiskey Jack's probably will not get them and the people who wait an hour for swifty and the triple likely will get them when they show up at the resort at 8am. I'm just surprised they're not charging for this.
