i'll be at squaw this saturday/sunday.
first time running the go-dumb.. while skiing at least.. don't think the conditions will be great for cliff huck footy, might have to bust out the old Super Gs.
if you see a green blur fly by say what's up![]()

^^^^^That dog has a cooler than hell life.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.
On a bluebird powder day at Alpine last year (of course) patroller is waiting for the next chair with a dog he was training, except at the last second the dog jumps on the chair in front, with 3 young ladies, leaving the patroller behind. As they say, no friends on powder days, even your dog.
Potential semi-pineapple express coming in this next week?
we rocked KW with Throwin' Owen Wed - finally met the other half of Team Owen - watched 5 year old boys fling their meat - I think we haz some pics and vids of both of the boys in the park
ran into GiBo this morning at BV lapping the goods
took the nephew out to Blood's Ridge into town - he wanted to do it again, but the snow was getting a bit too soft and the shuttle timing weren't in our favor
he was a bit disconcerted at our choice of line off the ridge
him "Is there an easier way in?"
me "No. Make yer first turn count and you'll be fine."
him "Got it."
the kid was fkn stoked - 1st time in CA - he's skied all 8 days of his visit
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
Skied Alpine everyday since Tuesday. It's crazy how much snow is disappearing on a daily basis. We've been getting to the hill after lunch everyday and the snow is melted in some spots and still bulletproof in others. Sadly, best snow has been consistently on/around Weasel. Feels like end of the season three years ago. Seemed pretty busy all week too, so let's hope that helps employees keep some hours in the next few weeks.
If you're up this weekend, bring the rock skis and plenty of beer. It's supposed to get colder, but if it doesn't it's prime drinking weather.
Weirdest run of the week was today down yellow (?)-which has turned into one rhythmless mogul field. I must have passed at least 25 people in various spots majority of them on the ground, all of them miserable and stuck. I'm awful at skiing bumps, but it made me feel like a champ! I've also seen more people walking around on runs this week than every before.
2 more days to ski week, then PLEASE some snow before I have to leave!
Was skiing really that bad in the past 11 days or so that there's almost zero photo or video stoke in this thread? C'mon, there's popcorn clouds out the Pacific and I just shut my bedroom window at my place, so change is definitely on its way. 200" here we come!
Full TR to follow eventually (kids bday parties this weekend)![]()
Nice 6r
I'm finally through being deathly sick, so can't wait to get out. Damn guests this weekend prevented me from going up.
I have no idea how that bowl licking pic got there and dont know how to get rid of it. Thats my boy!
Getting out to the west coast to visit friends and family, I'm going to partake in the $29 Squaw valley Leap Day promo... What other tahoe spot should I hit, I am only going up for 2 days and haven't been there since they allowed snowboards on mountains other than boreal (1985 for you youngsters).... My buddy wants to ride Homewood, I'm down for whatever..
Assuming there is any snow left at all..
Nice POV - you saved me from myself. I was about 2 mouse clicks away from posting inappropriate mountain bike commentary on this thread out of frustration.
No gnar was harmed in the writing of this post...
Damn. Been checking the radar and these storms just keep shattering.
skunktape-
-Homewood has nice views and mellow terrain, slow lifts and (should be) cheap tickets.
-Alpine has some of the better snow and groomed runs
That's the only contributions I have.
In other news:
Went for a little tourist hiking today with the lady and the dog. Went up to rainbow bridge near donner summit and hiked around china wall and the old rail tunnels. Pretty neat, hadn't been up there. There was somebody with two kids who had built a small kicker to a pipe and the kids were hitting it. Cool to see. There was also a larger kicker, lines painted even, to a pretty flat landing with a stump. Didn't see anyone hit that.
The interesting part is this:
This thing was between two tunnels, no sign of any tracks, and no snow underneath it. There were some guys painting in one of the tunnels, and some other people around, so I guess it could have been one of theirs, but as far as we could tell, it had been there for a while. Anybody seen this? Ideas? I peaked in a little, didn't see anyone in it. Didn't want to poke around much more. Weird no?
Thanks Jables, I'm into mellow terrain since I took a rib shot on the east coast ice a few weeks ago thats still sore as fuck.... See ya Wednesday. If anyone is around squaw, look for the Tall dude riding a skunk ape 172.
Snow is rapidly disappearing, but you'll get in under the wire. If you have two days with Homewood and Squaw already on the list then I guess you're set. Cover was getting super thin at squaw with the warm weather this week. You may luck out and hit just enough powder to hide all the stumps and rocks. Don't be fooled, be careful. Your squaw ticket will get you to Alpine as well (free shuttle), and in my opinion runs off Summit and Roundhouse have been skiing better than a lot of the terrain at squaw.
Even sometimes when I'm snowboarding I'm like "Hey I'm snowboarding! Because I suck dick, I'm snowboarding!" --Dan Savage
That is why a two week forecast is considered mostly guess and hope work at best. Even forecasting a week ahead is hard, unless you are forecasting for a high pressure bubble to continue to sit on your lap. Dusting tomorrow with more Wednesday. Any snow is good this year.
And thanks for posting some stoke 6er. This thread is mostly full of whine. Almost a hundred pages of it. With some luck (and clearance to post pics - what up TGR??) I will happily contribute with this next storm.
Nice 6'er. You are WINNING the lemonade making contest.
Wednesday's storm is shaping up good, too bad I'm headed to Whistler that day![]()
powdork.com - new and improved, with 20% more dork.
Word.
I've long felt that this thread should be re-titled: "The I Only Ski KW/Squaw/Alpine and I'm a GNAR-ass Mofo Jacknugget Who Likes to Whine When There isn't 800 feet of Powder to Slay on My 200 cm Planks" Thread.
FWIW, I just hit Day 90 for the season. Then again since I don't ski at KW--ergo I'm not core--I haven't been posting stoke.
Personally, I've felt that folks just need to shut the f@#k up and ski. Deal with the conditions (and, as the illustrious Powdork is fond of saying "All skis are rock skis").
Speaking of conditions, last two days at the resorts in my hood were full-on TBP (Tahoe Boiler Plate).
Quote of the week goes to some geezer wearing race tights in front of me in the lift line today who remarked "So, this is that famous Sierra Cement I've long heard about." I had to explain to the guy that, no, Sierra Cement is our gloppy post-powder. Poor guy was seriously bewildered (I think his race tights were a wee bit too tight).
Carry on my GNARwood son(s), there'll be peace when the snow comes...
PS
PD/Ottime: danke gracias for the RT/CP stoke
