Here's a guy I've had good luck with.

Hook: size 8 4x streamer hook
Thread black or whatever you have on hand
Body: orvis UV ice dubbing in shrimp for the body and sparkle olive for the head with cooper wire for the ribbing top it off with a Olive saddle hackle collar
Tail: grey elk hair

Bead head is optional but looks better with it.

This is a fantastic thread. I hope people use it! I'll surely try and drop some in from time-to-time. Tying has taken a backseat to life, work, family and fishing but I will try and contribute.

After a rec from AK for sparkle shrimp I did a little looking around I came up this one. Not entirely original but I found it to be effective.

Thread: Pink of course
Hook: I made these on both a number 4 scud/caddis hook and a number 6 3x streamer hook. I manly used the streamer hook cuz the other one was a pain in the ass.
Body: pink medium chennile with pink saddle hackle. I just folded the sides and trimmed the top off.
Tail: I used pearl braid because I find it easier to work with. You can use krysral flash if you want more of the plastic shell look.

After looking at the pic this thing would look great with a little black barbell eyes.

Hook: used a size 6 1x hook. Kind of an odd hook
Thread: black
Tail: I used peacock swords for the tail.
Body: Copper wire wrap with black ultra five chennile. Olive or black for the collar and a copper colored bead head.

This is a great little thread and I hope to contribute to it as I just started tying my own...I am starting out with a basic Elk Hair Caddis (my luckiest fly this season).

As I get better at it I would like to share my flies with the people on here...Maybe in return could trade 1/2 dozen with some of the other members who are interested.

Caddis ?

I mainly fish the salmon and steelhead run. Had redonkulus amount of luck bottom bouncing these over the beds. You can fish these with or without the collar same.thing with the bead head.

Hook: I used a size 4 caddis hook
Thread: black
Body: Love these in the Orvis ice dub caddis green for the body and brown for the head. I do a copper wire wrap to hold it all together.

Anderson's Crosswire Bird of Prey - October Caddis



Hook: TMC 2457 or equivalent, size 6
Bead: Tungsten bead, 7/32"
Weight: .030" lead wire
Thread: 6/0 Uni-Thread, Black
Tail: Gadwall flank feather tip used.
Body: Three strands of small Ultra Wire spun together: hot orange, hot yellow, silver
Thorax: UV Ice Dub, pearl.
Wing: Gadwall flank feather tied on using a distribution wrap
Collar: UV Ice Dub, black.

Notes: I took some artistic license from the orignial Crosswire Bird of Prey. I used a Gadwall flank feather for the tail fibers and the wing. Partridge is used in the commercial version. Wood Duck is used in the original. For the collar, I used UV Ice Dub. The original uses peacock herl.

Depending on location, this fly can be tied as large as size 6 and as small as size 10.

That takes me about five minutes. I will spin the three wires together before I tie the fly in order to save time.

Cletorobaetis



Hook: Partridge Klinkhammer, 20
Thread: Uni-Thread 6/0 or 8/0, Gray
Abdomen: Wapsi Micro Stretch Tubing, Clear
Thorax: UV Ice Dub, Pearl
Hackle: Hen neck hackle, Gray

Notes: The thread determines the abdomen color. I also use different shades of olive and iron gray for BWO patterns. I use gray for Callibaetis. The stretch tubing gives the fly some texture, volume, and some flotation. Even though the Partridge hook is a 20, compared to others, it is more like a 16 to 18.

I like to fish this fly with a long and fine leader. I usually taper down to 5x or 6x. The fly has enough weight to submerge it, but the air trapped in the tubing hover just below the surface film. For stillwater, I use slow strips. For moving water, I just let it swing.

I would be down for another swap. Although most of the flies I make are nymphs and not dries.

Great looking fly. Try this with a tan or light yellow body as well (if you haven't already!) I tie one similar and they seem to work just about everywhere.

I've done some bigger October Caddis versions but not that in tan or yellow, sounds like a good idear.

possibly some teal from early season, we didn't see many pins in the flyway this year because the weather sucked but I will check with my pops because he usually saves quite a few. Azexp I have tons of tail feathers, shoot me a pm with your address.

This is my unnamed stone fly. I'm just a novice at the whole tying thing and was trying to tie a Montana Stone or a Bitch Creek and ended up with a cross between the two. So far it's worked for me on 4 local rivers and 2 mountain lakes.

....Guess we'll call it Andy's Stoned Albertan

Hook: TMC 200R or equivalent, size 8 (or 6)
Bead: Silver bead, 1/8"
Weight: .025" lead wire
Thread: 6/0 Uni-Thread, Black (or olive)
Tail: Goose Biots, Olive.
Body: Small Chenille - Olive (or Tobacco Brown), Glimmer Thread XS - Copper
Thorax: Small Chenille - Gold.
Thorax wrap: Metz Cape grd 3 - Grizzly
Other: UV Ice Dub, Fl. Shell Pink.

I wrap a tiny bit of the pink dubbing at the back to split the Biots and separate the tail...you can use what ever color of dubbing you have to do it, but I like some flash. I've also tied in some micro black rubber legs on some of mine to give it a different look.
