the map mntlion posted is the one that is used by the majority of water stakeholders downstream to establish water needs and allocations for the next summer.
our own data is better presented, but ultimately relies on what is/was available by environment canada. the attachments below gives you total snow precip and snow on ground. the one with snow is for 1997-2007, the one with precip is only to 2002. precipitation is relatively random, so you can take it out of the picture pretty easily, but the bottom graph of the snowonground attachment is the average for that 10 year period, so you can see how the snowpack grows. there's data missing. blame computersi think the data mntlion posted is collected by hand more or less.
i will ask my boss whether it's possible to open up this data for you guys. nobody else is using it, and despite its shortcomings (it's a prototype) it can be useful.

further to mntlion's graph, i remember sitting in a stakeholder meeting in january of last year (imagine the graph plotting january as the current year) and faces were very, very glum. even by may people weren't happy at all and there was talk of severe drought on the prairies. we were hoping to be able to issue "predictions" based on past data, well, it's a good thing we didn't, because the spring and early summer were so wet that the charts were blown off the, well, charts (as you can see in green)...
i love weather. every day is a new completely different world.
^cool thanks for the graphs guys.
Currently raining in Banff. Careful on the highways coming out tommorrow...rain + freeze + Calgary drivers (most) = watch out.
lighting in town too, power is on/off at my place. snowing at SSV and below freezing, and winds are slowing down on divide too. Might be OK skiing? or sleeping in time. I'll be up at 6:30 to check
I wonder what's going to happen to KH bike park with RCR taking over? My timelines might be slightly off here, but it seemed like the year RCR dumbed down Fernie's bike park to make it "safer", Kicking Horse went in the exact opposite direction and started building theirs up by adding some really cool advanced trails and stunts. Over the past few seasons KH continued to add new trails like Stick Rock, LYM, and Super Berm, as well as adding new features and doing trail maintenance on existing trails. KH has had a nice long season as well by opening in early June and staying open on weekends through September when almost all other bike parks are closed. I really hope RCR doesn't change all that.
Glading, yea.... I've heard that term before. I'd like to propose a new term that means the same thing. De-glading. You guys wrecked a lot of my favourite runs I think.
Added: On second thought glading would be good for intermediate skiers, plus it keeps ski bums employed over the summer which is great so good on RCR for that. But it did open up a lot of good skiing to pretty much anyone which makes finding pow harder. Little trees block the sun and prevent crusts from forming I think.

Looks like Norquay won this storm. Reporting 40cm. Wish I wasn't chained to a desk today.
Go figure...didn't even consider Norquay. Was suprised to come back from LL today to see that 40cm sitting on the sidewalk to the door. More reminiscent of a spring storm.
LL was really nice...great snow. Lots of larger sized groups did a good job of hammering on the slopes. Hopefully it keeps snowing with the weekend crowds gone.
any idea if the big chair at norquay is open on weekdays now? like tomorrow?
horse was great today. Snow was heavier and is sicking well everywhere, mixed with some wind and lack of ppl it was top bottom pow skiing all day
Norquay was pretty sick today , got a few hours in before work . Opened big chair and it was pretty deep.
Theres no base though, ive had my nes skis for 1.5 hours and theres base missing already . sad face

OK, SSV it is for me...
Soon enough anything less than a core shot won't be worth you're attention and filling core shots will be just another thing to do with your wax. Unless of course you're one of those types who will piss about a scratch and pay $50 to have your skis "tuned" and grind each time. It's why I won't pay retail for skis anymore.Theres no base though, ive had my nes skis for 1.5 hours and theres base missing already . sad face
Got my Big Dumps mounted Mntlion....thank fuck for heli coils, spun 2 for being retarded with the tap.
that was a little sleeper storm at KH. They reported 20cm's but in all the right places it was much deeper than that. It was a full day from open to close with pow skiing all day. Today the slackcountry should be on (with the exception of N facing). Anyone skied south molars yet? I heard they're skiing well (before this storm) I may have to make my way over there today if I make it through the sketch that is backside Rudi's now. If not, I'll bang off more laps at Canyon Creek (that has been money lately almost all the way to valley floor).
Finally some snow around here!!
Made a trek out to Revy with Mex and couple buddies for some Bday turns this weekend. It did not suck!! Pissed rain in town but a decent snowfall up top both fri and sat night....made for some very nice turns all weekend. We did laps in north bowl yesterday until about 1:00 and I don't think I crossed a track and then spent the last hr or so running laps down the back 40 and still had trouble finding a track.
Sry, no stoke...when I finally remembered I brought my camera, it was socked in up high and pics with 10' of visibility wouldn't be worthwhile.
Found Rock Garden yesterday, was fun! Going back today.

Looking for the next turn..
^ I know where that is. Fun zone and easy to get to.
^ Thanks Doug!
Really looking forward to the camp, I just PMed T2C with some ideas, pricing, etc. I am sure he'll start a thread about it.
Upper Fuez opened today around 3. Skied Expendable Youth, the top was bony and full of sharks and a bit scary, but the fan was $$.... Little more snow and it's on!
Flying the Bluehouse colors in Western Canada! Let me know if you want some rad skis!!
"He is god of snow; the one called Ullr. Son of Sif, step son of Thor. He is so fierce a bowman and ski-runner that none may contend! He is quite beautiful to look upon and has all the characteristics of a warrior. It is wise to invoke the name of Ullr in duels!"
