Went to Squaw today for the season opener, and skied the same groomer for a few hours. Certainly not the same as last year when KT spun day after Thanksgiving with blower conditions but good to make those first lift served turns of the year nonetheless. Let's hope this high pressure gets the hell out of here quickly and we get some storms rolling in again.

    Happy thanksgiving to all.

I would be interested in pit results from the carson pass area.

Think that is what I am up to tomorrow. A little hiking and some pit digging.

Telemike, ill see you at the WROD Friday.

To those of you looking for a ski lease, where were you last month when I was pulling my hair out trying to fill 2-3 spots with cool non-serial killers?

How's the WROD at Squaw looking so far? Northstar's summit is open (for two trails) and the coverage was pretty decent last weekend, so I'm trying to decide which place to go this Saturday.

I'll be up for a little first chair carves on Race Course on Saturday morning. I'm up for a Danberg if anyone is game, safe, and worthwhile. Avy report isn't pushing me to venture out to high elevation.

I might be game Saturday. Not sure how worthwhile it will be. Thin cover around here.

Was out near the moon today digging pits. There are facets. On a slope similar to the main chute, they were about 8 inches down, under wind load. Soft and hard slabs every where. But not a whole lot of instability. No shooting cracks. The skiing was less than epic.

Ill be around the WROB after the bug wakes. Look for bright colors and a beefy stroller. Ill have gear in the car, bit am pretty worked after today's bushwacking, slab dodging, granite grinding suffer feat.

Drizzling at Squaw parking lot this afternoon. I was just passing by, not skiing.
But a little rain followed by some snow would seem like a nice anchor about now.

Was up on Andesite today and it sure as fuck warmed the hell up. Cream Cheesified everything. Took a look in the pack and had moderate shear (Q2) at around 7600' on an E aspect. So it seems to be gaining strength. Also noticed everything with any access to solar is crusting up. We might still have a nice bed surface for the next load of snow to slide on.

Nada mucho excitingisimo to report from the Northside Connection other than I've been logging an average of 5 laps a day for the past 3 days on the various groomers they have open at the Gnarth. Conditions have been fairly bueno for early season and no new snow with semi-near-perfect condis for laying down some moderate GS turns and working on hard snow techniques. Some days have had slightly better snow due to the warmer temps. Off piste still is a no go unless you wish to partake of an au naturale base grind or view shrubs, tree trunks, and hidden rocks as Moms Nature's answer to park features.

Thanks for the info. Crust is better than sub zero nights making more feathers.

+1 for a new bed surface. Almost everything out of the trees at CPSSR had some sort of crust. But to be clear, I never go a clean shear on the facet layer. And eventual crumble, after 5 elbow wacks with the shovel blade.

Looking to hit the WROD around noonish.

EDIT: There is a line at 5. Kind of glad I have baby duty this morning. Looks like I'll get it when everyone goes on lunch break.

Oh. And we got at least a mm of fresh pow last night here at the Wood. Must be the K-Factor.

Skipped the WRODs and went to the closed-for-the-near-future-at-least Bear Valley Resort. Figured I'd do a waxless tour to Duck Lake, but swung by the resort first and discovered it was better than last Sunday. Zipper crust with sugar underneath made for very fast and smooth turns, with no hits until I got cocky and started popping too high off terrain features on my fifth run and found a couple of snow snakes. Sixth and final lap displayed better judgment and was still fun. We sure do need a nice storm to come in warm, crush this snow, and keep piling on. In the meantime we'll just have to enjoy annoyingly pleasant weather.

I don't have any waxless gear at the moment, but I'm planning to go hike at or around BV once er twice in the next few days. We should hook up. I'll drop you a pm.

got to kirkwood and did one run down monte wolfe to tire out the pup and then one on 5. skinning up, there was still some deep soft in the shade of upper sentinel. monte wolfe was powder dropping in, then a little crust, then lower the crust was baked off.

Some nice tracks up above chair 11. Might find myself hiking again. Enjoyed what was was on offer today. And my son had his first day on the snow and sledding session. Woot!
