NEVER? Good, because no one EVER said there's a 200 inch difference. So...uh, not so good in reading comprehension. I know...maybe you're better at math. Bzzzzzzzzzt! Nope.
Let's do the math: At the exact moment Alta reached 700", snowbird's total was in the 500's in the 3 separate years cited (actually, you can add April 1995 to the list as a 4th example). Since these are historical facts, it doesn't matter what you think, or whether you like them. Facts just...exist. However, some people may care how you interpreted and changed what was reported.
The difference between Alta's 700" and a number "in the 500's" might be 101". In the context of this thread it might even be 150", but the number can NEVER be 200". It is a numeric impossibility.
    Just sayin.

    ahem... You sure about that?

So then, is 500 in the 400's?
and just to check my math, 500+199 is... add one, thats 500 + 200.

I got 700, what did you get? Should we try it backwards?

sorry but you really can't fuck with the collins snow study plot at alta. it might be the longest on-going snow depth plot in the United States, def in utah.

Brighton has changed their snow depth plot location in recent years, snowbird changed theirs this year, PCMR is at the highest point at the ski area, vail resort misreports spring snow melt.

ALTA, on the other hand, has had their plot in the same mid-elevation location for the last 30 years and gladly displays its snowfall history on their website

also, i'd like to add that the geography of the wasatch is as such that the location of alta looks like a catcher's mitt for lake effected storms. its also located on the crest of the wasatch, which is good for orographic lift. so its not surprising that alta gets more snow over the course of a season.

For example when Alta reached 700" in '05, '99, and '98, snowbird's total was still in the 500's.
Snow physics haven't suddenly changed. If Alta's 702", you can bet the ranch snowbird's actual is 500-something. But, whatever. Can't deny it works for marketing.
Haters will hate. Sorry but Snowbird has more than what they report. Working at Snowbird at Mid-Gad clearing the deck or skiing onto the deck for work, many mornings snow report of "x" snow, snow on deck =X+2 or more inches. with the very rare occasion of less than reported. Sorry your mad that Alta is closed and Snowbird is still open.

They should have stuck with the first stake and kept it on-line. If you are proud of your snow, show it. Save the boasting of what ya got for the PC Crowd. This trust us shit gets old and I can do my own math.
