^^^Snow packed and icy to the upper parking lot with a couple dry spots down low.
Beyond that the road was fully covered w/ pp, a couple of sleds and a quad made it to
the hairpin and then it was untracked up to the pass.
3 to 12" base of sugar with a glazed crust on top.
nasty base for the start of the season.

Cruiser, you gonna come join us on sat?? It's gonna be a madhouse up there, but all are invited!

Good to hear the road is covered, hopefully the tards are done trying to Drive up & getting their tacomas stuck in the middle of the road!!

Oh, and strummer.... well, you already said it bud!!!

Btw, as much as I like to make fun of you worthless city dwelling scum, I've got an avy practice day (completely free, just a good time to get together with other people & work with your gear & maybe try some new equipment & ideas) I'm hosting at JP this sat, I've got new equipment for people to try, a great opportunity for people to work on larger multiple burial scenarios, and a good crew of sledders & skinners to work with. And even YOU strummer... are invited. There will likely be other city dwelling scum for you to hang with so you don't feel out of place!!!

Btw, we're looking at having around 50-80 people (that many sledders, plus however many skinners show), so if you are planning on riding there, I'd suggest getting there early to avoid the near guaranteed shitshow that many sledders will likely bring to the parking area, sorry about that side of things, no good deed goes unpunished right? I am going to be STRONGLY discouraging people from riding up above much since there will be so many of them, hopefully they'll leave the rideable stuff alone for you guys!

Btw, getting to know the other side is more helpful than you'd think. Those of us on sleds can cover a ton of ground & see the different conditions from place to place & aspect to aspect much easier than we ever could on skis. There are a number of regular skiers that stop by me on the way up & we talk about the conditions & what I've seen so far in the day when I run across them. (also, if you're nice to the sledders... it's easier to get them to leave an aspect alone for you)

Were you with one friend and dropped north chute on Russell right behind our group (five + two howling mad dogs) in that micro blizzard? We also saw two guys skinning up when we were playing in the meadows below Hidden Knob.

Either way, I was quite happy with the snow we found, turned out to be well worth the effort that day. My first pow turns of the new season. And yes, luge track past Peter Rabbit hut was sketchball! Good times.

Conditions should be great tomorrow. Started snowing around 8am and dumped a good 6 or 7 inches by 1pm when I left. Didn't look like it was done though...

I wish I could K, but I have to work all day on Saturday. I'd have jumped on that one otherwise. Thanx for the offer though. Can't get enough beacon practice!

Berthoud Pass at 6:00am only had 4-7 inches of coverage. If you wanna go bring your rock gear and go slow. Butler's Gulch might be doable since it's north facing...

Butler is better, but lots just under the (minimal amount of) new snow. The lower part where it gets grassy is actually pretty fun right now though.

Very nice up there this morning.
Zero wind with a rolling cloud cover and heavy fog.
Between 4 to 6" new and still snowing when I left.
Lots of hidden talus tho, totally scrapped up Skullbite.

Yeah it wasn't exactly in yet, I turned back after three turns and hit the meadows instead.

Hahah, yes. I didn't know your screen name. Great day out. Will be out tomorrow AM, slightly earlier than Killclimbz and Dork69 though (schedule). Considering coming back over this way?

Say hi to the snow pooch for me.

Oh yeah, any of that vid come out?

I'm going to meet up with those guys and a few others it sounds like.

The focus on the video wasn't very good. I don't get the feeling those Flip cams are intended for that type of application. It seemed to assume that the focal point was significantly closer that it was. I'll look at them again and see if any of them are worth posting or emailing out.

Did a dawn patrol at the pass on Thursday (yesterday) and was one of the first 2 cars in the lot this morning. Had great turns. Problem was that when I got back to the top of the pass at around 11 AM, the place was a zoo. Oh well, as long as folks are having fun and I'm able to enjoy myself as well it's all good.

(posted this video in my other thread, but thought it might be useful here too)

If you care to see any more pics go here.
    When in doubt...straighten 'em out.

I think some of you guys were hiking the wrong spots, the coverage was pretty damn great for the time of year. this is up at timberline-ish above HHA. Didn't hit a single rock, about 6 to 8 inches of fresh. Amazing day
