    BP = Beater Pass

Have fun with the circus jong fest that is come to be known as Beatered Pass. Sure it's a fun spot to make a few quick laps, but there's so much more terrain that has twice as much vert, twice as much snow, and a lot less people to dodge and deal with than BP. That place used to be fun back in the day when they spinned lifts up there. Barely saw anyone during the day and the vibe was way different. Now it's all about the 'bro brah' hip factor than it is about making turns.

In all seriousness... are there any places equally close to Denver with the same or better terrain/snow, that have don't require a long approach for vertical, thus can be done for a few hours in the morning...

jones pass, rollins? I'm asking, not being a sarcastic prick....not this time at least.
Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?

    fuck that noise.

Bro brah hip factor? Maybe I've just totally and completely missed that in the last 5 years of skiing there, but I've never seen any of that - but I typically ski there mid-week and early and don't spend any time in the lot.

VPM we'll have to get out to Jones pass and show you around. With powtrons clearance we can drive most of the way. As far as long vert close to Denver and just off the road... not much else that I've found is as easy as BP. LL Pass has quite a few options, but is probably a bigger shit show.

    Wow, you're quite the hater.

It is what it is.... a fun place to ski that always has great snow, within an hour of Denver. Care to mention another place that fits that criteria so close that doesn't require long hauls to access terrain? (besides Jones Pass)

I agree with everything PoopGhost has to say, BTW.

I gotta give RAWR credit for actually posting Photos in a Photos thread. Most everyone else just seems to be thinking aloud about what they are going to wear tomorrow!

Berthoud is sort of like a par 3 golf course. Lots of fun, good exercise, you can walk on at the last minute, you don't need to be all that awesome. Hackers everywhere. Sure there's no beer cart chicks and the fairways can slide on you, but otherwise similar. Nothing wrong with that.

today was another great day on the pass. everything in the shade around HHA was still nice and fluffy. can't say the same for anything in the sun, turned into muck instantly.

only pic I took today, not much stoke but gotta love that winter scene...

When we left around 11:00, the sun was just starting to hit the snow hard, I have to imagine the snow quality is going to be shit by tomorrow.
me and my brother got up pretty early, there were a couple people heading up right when we were pulling in, maybe it was you guys

HHA was prime, lots of fun, much better than school

Jesus, what a bunch of fucking attitude...you ain't core if you ski BP any more, remember that kids.

Everything was so much better 10 years ago, three weeks ago, or yesterday. Heaven forbid you just want some quick turns because unlike some folks on the board, you actually have a real job and need to get back to said job.

As for Jones, let's hit it after the next storm (pending snowpack conditions) and see how far we can get up with Gasoline assistance.
You should have been here yesterday!

Sheesh, he did say it was a fun place to make some quick laps. Which is true. He also said it can be a gong show of beaters. Which is also true, and true of any roadside attraction.

I am constantly amazed by the inability of anyone around here to be able to hold conflicting thoughts in their minds. Of course, I am sitting in the parking lot at Loveland listening to Morrissey, so what the fuck do I know?

Well, since crackheads busted out my window and took my ipod, I am using my wife's. Selections are limited - It's this or Amy Winehouse or Gypsy Kings.

Now I am stuck on I-70 waiting for them to clear a wreck. Where's that backcountryislife guy to tell me I'm a douchnozzle?

    from CAIC's statewide forecast-
Snow from mid-October has had perfect conditions for metamorphing into facets and depth hoar where it has survived. In some areas a melt freeze crust has formed at the surface before Monday's storm, which will/has made for fairly unstable snowpack conditions. North aspects above treeline have the most snow cover, with southerly aspects mostly melting out before the weekend storm of October 23-24. These are very similar conditions to what we saw at the end of October 2009 when we had nine human triggered avalanches with a couple of very close calls.
i was hoping that the warm october would allow us to avoid the early season depth hoar that stuck around all of last year, but maybe that is not the case? any pit reports from those who have been out?

This is genius. Someone needs to make it happen.

And sorry to hear about your car, man. Although I wouldn't hold out too much hoping on the police finding your briefcase.

^^^ not much...I was up there late afternoon on Saturday
and it was pretty thin and grim. Ended up going to Jones Pass
instead were we hoped it had seen less traffic and was rewarded
with a nice wind scoured skating rink up high.

    needs more snow...and butter....

I was there on Sunday, we found good snow on the west side of the pass. At least up high. Bobsled run down past Peter Rabbit was kind of spicy. Hopefully this storm will deliver the goods.

Hey mud, how was the coverage on the road up to jones? Hoping to get out there later this week on the sled for a bit of test and tune. Any info would be appreciated.
