Chain Lightning - UPA Club Nationals Champions.

Finally a Southeast team gets it done.

Here are some good pics from the weekend, not mine. I had the mini midget in tow, so photo opportunities were limited.









It was hot as snot, might be the reason Chain did so well. I can't imagine teams from the Pac NW are used to playing in 90 degree weather for 4 days straight.

DOG won Masters, speaking of old teams.

It was a great weekend, as usual. The $1 endless beer cup makes it that way.

I am so happy for my buddy Brandon. He is the guy laying out in the first photo. He had multiple layout D's this weekend. Some of which were game turners. Gotta give the guy props. Drove from Tampa to ATL once a month for 5 or 6 months. That is some serious commitment. He is about the nicest guy you will ever meet, and it is just really nice to see all that work pay off.

My Masters team finally broke on through. I originally registered with the UPA back in 1986 or 87, going to my first Nationals in 2010. Fucking stoked!

Yeah buddy- I'll be there ... watching again. My team tied for third at regionals in Austin. Only 2 bids this year for Masters in the South.

PearJam09 will be there too- playing for one of the New England teams- Co-Ed I think. District 5 is his team name I think.

I'll look for your team. Prolly be there one day during the week dodging work, and one day on the weekend partying. My buddy and teammate Tim runs the beer truck, so you know where I'll be found.

The core of the team is from Santa Fe, but there are guys from ABQ, Tucson, PHX, a Denver guy, a Boulder guy (me), a SW Colorado guy, a Reno guy, a Portland guy, and one or two SoCal guys. Needless to say, we don't practice every week. They had one practice weekend that I missed, and we played Sectionals as a practice weekend too.

PS I am #15, generally play on O points, but will play D points if we're running zone, I'll be running cup (so if the other team knew that, they'd know a zone was coming if they saw me on a D line).

I generally play zone with some sporadic man D. Almost never play O. In my experience, even if they know we're coming zone, they still are going to have to play against it, so I don't try to hide the fact that we're going zone as I head on the field.

Yeah, I hear you, probably even more true in Masters, you may fool them by the type of zone you play, but the simple fact of "zone" doesn't fool many.

Everybody keeps getting older, so we have an unlimited pool. Getting some of these older guys to admit they are ready to play Masters, that is another story.

My daughters are on the team that lost two games to go at SW mixed regionals a few weeks ago. Kinda bummed to see Mischief & Blackbird both get bounced in the quarters.
