Waiting for first chair in the Catskills Saturday morning after almost 6 feet of new snow in 2 nights with drifts in places to 8+ feet and this guy from New Jersey behind me is telling his kids how the whole of this mountain is like 1 of the smaller trails at Vail "where they usually ski" and how the snow here is nowhere near as good. He tells them to watch for icy spots.

I had to laugh as even the trails they groomed the night before had almost a foot of fresh on top of them.

Then he proceeded to fall off the lift while loading, stopping it for 5 minutes.

Riding up Headwall lift in the fog Saturday--fog so thick you couldn't see the chair in front, in fact at one point I forgot which chair I was on (which I realize is pretty gaper too)--young woman is complaining to her friend that her 150 dollar goggles weren't helping in the flat light. I wonder if those xray glasses they advertise in the back of comic books would work better-anyone try those?

At least he was trying, which is more than I can say about you.

Taking phone pics of strangers and posting them on the Internet; wow, your cool.

There has got to be some more gems from this weekend in the Catskills, more than just the usual "Why don't they just groom it all?"
    No longer stuck.

Went skiing at a shit hill for a demo day, and shortly after a friend and I got kicked out for skiing without passes, I spotted a girl in those black tights you usually see highschool girls wear tucked into their uggs.

Was checking in at the North Summit patrol shack ontop of lone peak a while ago and in walks this sixty year old lady asking where the restaurant and bathroom is... Patroler and I look at each other, shrug and tell her the resturant is at the base of the mountain and the nearest bathroom is where the yellow snow is on the side of the shack...

More recently I was on red dog lift at squaw talking to older local guy about conditions, I mentioned the avi danger from all the wind loading, he loooked at me and said with a straight face, wind doesnt cause avis, there caused by temperture! I asked him again if he was sure he wasnt from the bay area, he replied no ive lived up here for twenty somthing years... I chose to bite my tounge and remain silent for the rest of the akwardly long ride up

We get out of the car at Alpine Meadows last week and my wife realizes she's forgotten to put on her ski pants--just wearing her long underwear. And it's cold, and blowing hard enough from the east to shut Summit. Not to worry, she skied all day like that. Tough lady (with excellent legs).

Happen last Wednesday (3' dumpage) while waiting in the castlerock lift line @ Sugarbush:

Chick on a snowboard standing next to me: " Dude do you want that long orange ribbon tied around your binding?"

Dude with long orange ribbon tied around his binding: "Yeh they are powder cords"

Snowboarder chick: "Well what do they do?"

Dude: "Help me find my ski when it falls off. You've never heard of them?"

Chick: "I lived in Truckee for 11 years. Never seen them."

    Dude: "That's wierd"

Me: "What's wierd is that you are the only fucking person in line tying them onto your ski!"
    Feeling anxious, a little paranoid.

On the drive home from Jay Monday I saw a northbound car with a Thule box on backwards.
A woman reported to police at 6:30 p.m. that she was being "smart-mouthed."

I hate this type of person. We are all on here to enjoy the mountains and share the stoke. For some reason, he feels that a whole mountain pass is his, and his alone. If your great grand pappy didnt settle here back in the 1800s, then you are not a true local, therefore not core, and not entitled to ride "his" area. IMO if someone has the knowledge to safely explore the BC, and the williningness to earn their turns, whats wrong with some pointers as to where to go? I'm not talking about your showing your favorite hidden lines, with detailed instructions on how to get there, but we all enjoy riding here!

Makes me want to put the topo of Wolf Creek Pass with all the hiking and riding routes on here.

    Fucking haters

Today at the top of the gondola at Kicking Horse.

Snowboarder exits gondola, walks over and throws his snowboard into the snow. Snowboard takes off down the cat track, under the rope and down into the valley behind the Eagles Eye. As I skied past him he was running along the rope watching his board disappear down the valley muttering "no no no no no no".

I was standing in the lift line on Saturday not really paying attention while the group of three people I happened to partner up with in the lift line proceed to load the cahir with out me. I notice someone kicking my ski and wonder what the hell they were doing. It wasn't till the people i was supposed to be riding with were already sitting down did I notice I was getting left behind. My solution, skate as fast as possible and push the lifty aside(politely) and try to jump in front of the chair. Needless to say I caught all of a 1/2 a cheek on the chair and was promptly tossed in to the guest pit. I had to stand up to cheers from 200 people suggesting I sse myself to the back of the line and then see my self over to Alta!! How about that for some gaperiffic action.

Hah, I saw one of these around VT the other weekend too!

Also, yesterday at Stowe I saw a minivan pulling away with the back gate door totally open. I tried yelling at those people to save them some trouble / embarrassment, but yea they had no idea what was going on.
Man, all the gaper moments at Stowe are pretty hilarious. And lord knows that there's a whole lot of 'em.
