Anyone want to meet up for some turns next week? I'll be skiing up there Tuesday-Friday and bringing avy gear, but not lugging the touring skis along.

Man, I can't stop wondering why the hell the Subaru Freeskiing guys don't have an act in this competition. Whistler would be the perfect location. It would be downright sickness. Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I want more cowbell.

Blackcomb used to host Freeskiing events, then guys started getting too stupid and hucking off the crazy stuff. A broken back and near death rag doll put the end to anymore freeskiing comps in Whistler.

hmmmm, what was up with that winch cat I've been seeing at the top of the women's course the past few days pushing snow off then?

Well, i guess I'm pumped we won a gold but Snowboard Cross? really? It just looks like a slow, no talent unworthy event.

For me, it really exposes snowboarded for how lame it is when they crash and have to crawl on their hands and knees up the jumps.

I don't know anything, but maybe it's hard enough up there, and there's more snow at the top that it was more necessary and had wouldn't damage anything?

It looks fun, but it just seems like another contrived, new sport for the Olympics that nobody gives a shit about.

Boring to watch, but considering nordic skiing was the advent and the beginning of skiing, I think it has a bit more merit and history than a sport that arrived a little over a decade ago.

    dear Wankers:

Your lack of learned geography only makes us Whistlerlites laugh (70cm in the past week, another pow day today, with nobody on the mountains, and the backcountry untouched).

    Snowboard cross is embarrassing.

Gigi Ruf is not embarassing, however.
A little redemption after snowboard cross...

So anything that doesn't involve two sticks attached to your stumps should not be an Olympic event and is for your jong neighbor. Got it.

Sorry, I just think it's boring and contrived. Just my opinion.

Went back to the city last night for Chinese New Year Dinner and to watch Canada vs Switzerland in Womens Hockey

First off = warmest winter in 115 winters of Vancouver recorded history (yeah its a young city) => damn bulbs blooming in the garden already

Contrast to Whistler the next day (today) when it snowed to valley floor

The UBC arena venue for the women's hockey game

Really wanted to get a pic with Quaatch but would have been bad form to elbow the kids out of the way

Lots of kids at the game loving it

Spirited game - the Swiss played good defence and worked hard but got pretty sloppy in the last half of the second period and third period and kind of abandoned their poor goalie

The place was packed! Canucks are hockey mad

I was a Steward near the start of the Men's Olympic Downhill on Whistler on Feb 15th. They do look like they're going pretty fast!

You'll say the same thing about this period in time. It will have been the birth years of olympic tyrannosaurus fire pit rocket pack boarder cross. But by then we'll have this history that we are forging as we speak to fall back upon and espouse the event's rich heritage.
