I bought my first bike this summer with money I saved up from working during high school. It's nothing special, just a Ninja 250.

I had to learn how to clean the carburetor, change oil, change spark plugs, and tighten/lube the chain before I could take it out for a first ride. Next step: find a front fairing that I can afford.

Looks like winter weather is on the way, but we managed a great ride before the seasons turn on us. Surprised Trackhead hasn't posted here about the trip, but it was his sick and twisted and brilliant plan.

Good bike choice? Looking at offroad touring, as well as back and forth to work/school.

It's reliable, but a little boring in regards to power output. It's also limited in suspension. After about two weeks you'll wish you bought a bike with 12" of travel.

I'd just buy a 450x, put DOT tires on it, blinkers, etc, then go get it licensed. You'll have WAY more fun off-road.

If you are a timid rider who is small and does not want to do any aggresive riding and not too much highway riding that would be a great bike. If you are a bigger person and plan on doing more offroad touring then go for a 650XRL . If you think you will eventualy ride more difficult off road terrain then like trackhead said go for the 450x with a baja kit (street legal kit) on it. That is what i ride and love it. I do mostly technical single track but the bike still rocks on the track and is great for hangover rides and shorter commutes as well. I put a larger sprocket on the front if I am doing any longer road rides.

i've been wanting a VFR for way too long...something like fifteen years...finally decided a couple weeks ago that with the economy in the toilet and the summer riding season nearing an end, it was time to start looking for a bargain.

....my 'new' 1998 VFR with only 6000 miles on the clock...

    Turn Signals? Check.
    Headlight? Check
    Mirrors? Check

Why wouldn't they give him one? Our DMV has no idea what bikes are 2 Stroke or not. You show up, they look at the indicator lights, you drive off. n Even if they did have a clue the RGV250 was made from 1988-1998 so likely Grandfathered in before they banned 2 Stroke motors.

    HOLY SHIT!

    That is HUGE news!

Never rode one...really didn't care for the styling...

But I have a tremendous amount of respect for Erik Buell, and his seemingly insatiable quest to find innovative design solutions. It takes a great deal of courage and commitment to 'buck the system' and do what he has done.

there is a video msg from Eric Buell on the website. very sad. HD also made a major investment in MV Augusta, and they are selling that out as well.

I doubt Buell will find funding for his bike - but he should sell his brake system to the japanese.

Yeah, that vid is tough to watch. Erik looks like he's about to cry.

i'm sure they can find a buyer for MV Augusta and while i agree, i doubt it will happen, i really hope Erik gets to build bikes again.

Ok, Mammoth opened today. However, when there is perfect dirt to be had may as well burn some fossil fuel.

I'm loving this old school XR600R thumper beast. Kinda fun pegging it at 8omph down some piece of shit gravel road in the middle of nowhere.

Then stumbling along some random single track and a bit of sand.
