    TR: Magnificent Desolation

Here's some snaps from a long weekend spent walking around the Desolation Wilderness behind Emerald Bay.

We hiked up in the dark, and spent Friday night arguing about politics and debating religion at Cascade Lake.

Saturday night, we camped at Lake Fontanellis. The winds were buffeting us all day, and did not abate at night.

In between gusts, it was still pretty nice.

There were nice tarns in the glacial landscape, a surprising amount of water for September in the high Sierra.

    There was a HUGE snake!

    Hissss!

    Yay! Wilderness!

Pope checked out the setting sun.

No, it really was this purple....

Tat did a bad job of staying still.

I thought it would be fun to try my first star trails shot...here's the subject foreground in the daytime.

    In twilight...

The night sky was pretty, but the wind made it hard to capture what I had in mind.

I tried one last time from my sleeping bag.

    We swam in the morning.

And saw some waterfalls, sending what used to be the goods from Dick's Lake to Fontanellis.

Lake Azure was in our way on the way down.

But, we had to leave the woods for very important meetings in our cubicles.

Then, we walked down some slabs back to the trailhead.

Wilderness is awesome, you should find some and go there!

I love the hike up from twin bridgesm I saw a nekkid chick and two topless chicks another time. Just thought I would throw that in.

I don't know what you had in mind, but that shot is tits as far as I'm concerned.

I agree. Lots of wilderness around here, I visit it frequently.
