NICE. After that gets a little more burned in its going to be awesome. After our last two races I was wondering what dirt looked like. Both where total rock runs, and I managed to smoke another brand new pipe, even through the carbon guard.

i like the 961 commando (and were supposedly coming out with a few years ago) better.

but i do like the naked sport bikes better than the true race bikes. and the 961 commando reminds me a bit of my first bike, a '72 commando.

Just bought by first bike today, an older Yamaha in nice shape. Now I just need to figure out how to ride the thing before my road test on Tues. And thanks to the almighty internet, I now know how to shift. Or at least I understand the principle. It's too bad I live on a highway with blind curves in front of my house and I'm scared shitless to ride a half block to get onto some side streets where I can practice a bit.

Gonna have to be an early morning mission before traffic picks up.

Even if you manage to pass the license test with that little practice, you should look into taking the MSF Basic Rider Course. It's kinda like skiing--if you learn how to do the basics right, you can progress a lot faster and not have to unlearn bad habits as you get better. Unlike skiing, though, motorcycling often takes place in traffic and on pavement, making mistakes more painful.

(I'm assuming that if you don't know how to shift, you're probably not particularly experienced with turning, braking, or acceleration, either.)

Yeah, I've had some friends who have taken a course and recommended it. Problem is, the nearest course is two hours away and it's a three day deal, so between the course itself and a place to stay, it's way too much money and time for me right now. I'm just planning on cruising some side streets, then easing my way into highway riding. The test itself is kind of a joke - I don't think you'd get above 10mph. I really don't see how it would qualify anyone to actually ride a motorcycle anywhere besides a parking lot.

Handling a bike at low speeds is actually harder.

Im still getting back into it myself, 2yrs now but i had dirt bike experience.

Get yourself full gear, your going down one day. I got a great deal on advider.com on some kevlar gear. cycleport is the company. Also for 300 bucks, sign up for lee parks total control clinic if you can. Its one day. He has a good book too.

maybe you can find someone that can help you with some fundamentals locally. Last year, I barely knew how to ride a dirt bike. After the MSF course, I realized how little I knew. I am sure there are some fundamental videos on the internet.

Yes The commando is (supposedly) coming out this fall as well. If I didn't already have the bonneville, that would be on my list as well.

i had my endorsement years ago, but then didnt have a bike for a bunch of years. including a period of time when my license was suspended for running from the cops on a motorcycle. so i let the endorsement lapse.

i had to do my re-test a couple years ago on a $500 1985 honda interceptor 500 with 65,000 miles, bad brakes, no suspension, half bald tires and to top it all off the parking lot where they had us do the test (at the gallatin county fairgrounds) was covered in sand and gravel. they do make you do some swerves and quick stops, which was kind of sketchy. i bitched a little about the condition of the course, but that didnt get me anywhere. i did fine but some dude on a huge yamaha cruiser/harley clone dumped and scratched up his chrome.

i decided that honda was a little too dangerous, so after a few months of riding it got my buell.

You'll be able to grab a lot more throttle with that one :wheelie: and have a "safe" one for friends. Next year you'll be looking at big bore kits.

Envious. I'd be doing a lot less solo rides with a spare bike.

I never thought I'd hear myself say this but Arkansas is fucking awesome! Rode the Ozarks for 3 days. Hundreds of miles of unpatrolled and uninhabited, minus an odd bible banger here or there, roads! Plenty of places to camp.

Highly reccomended.

Too much rain in SLC lately, so.........ran a few solo laps on Slickrock today. It's fun to run consecutive laps so you can learn it and get the flow better for each lap. Tomorrow morning will be the pedal lap.

Never did rain. Going up there tomorrow.

Got a little exercise with the wife.

Not a bad place for an evening beer.

Just getting to the parking lot we crossed this creek 7 times in my truck. Then another 14 crossings brought us to the spot where i should have brought my chainsaw and we could go no further.
